Nintendo Announced End Of "Regular" Support For Splatoon 3 At Grand Festival Event

As a dedicated Splatoon player who has splashed my way through countless battles since its release, I must admit that the recent announcement from Nintendo left me feeling a bit like a squid out of water. After two years of eagerly anticipating each new update, the news that regular support for Splatoon 3 is coming to a close has left me with a case of the “ink-redible blues.

Nintendo hosted the Grand Festival for the third-person shooter game, Splatoon 3, in September. This significant “grand finale” took place from the 12th to the 15th of September, 2024. This “in-game celebration” brought together the Splatoon gaming community during this ink-filled Splatfest event. Nintendo had teased that this event would be packed with exciting surprises for players.

One unexpected piece of news shared near the end of the in-game event was revealed on their official social media channels. Nintendo hinted that regular updates for the third-person shooter game would cease, but they have not specified when this will happen yet.

Initially launched on Nintendo Switch systems in the year 2022, the vibrantly colored third-person shooter game garnered massive popularity, outweighing some initial gameplay and technical problems. Now, over two years following its debut and several DLC expansions, Nintendo has announced that they will cease regular updates for Splatoon 3. However, there are a few exceptions such as in-game events and a forthcoming balance adjustment.

Following an amazing two-year run of Splatoon 3, the routine updates are set to conclude. But don’t fret! Seasonal events like Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will carry on with some familiar themes returning!
