As a die-hard Taylor Swift fan who’s seen her Eras Tour 17 times, I can confidently say that I was heartbroken when the concerts were canceled due to an attempted terrorist attack in Vienna. The city is now overrun with us, the Swifties, and while it’s been a delight to see fellow fans bonding over our shared love for Taylor, there’s no denying that it just isn’t the same without her on stage.
Nikki Glaser was among the multitude of Swift fans who traveled to Vienna this week, only to learn that Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour performances were called off due to a foiled terrorist attack attempt. Three shows planned for Vienna on Tuesday were cancelled following the detention of three teenagers suspected of being involved in a terror plot linked to ISIS, aimed at disrupting Taylor Swift’s upcoming concerts.
“Glaser expressed feeling deeply disheartened when she learned about the tour cancellation as she was boarding her flight to Vienna on Thursday. Unlike numerous other fans, Glaser had already attended the Eras Tour concert 17 times. Yet, she wants to make it clear that, despite her disappointment, no one should feel sorry for her.”
“Glaser shared with EbMaster over Zoom from her hotel in Vienna that she often accompanies Taylor on her tours just as much as she performs herself. When not touring, she seeks out Taylor’s location and joins her. This is something I truly enjoy, almost like an addiction for me. So naturally, I was heartbroken when…,” (paraphrased)
Setting jokes aside, Glaser expressed heartfelt gratitude that no one was injured. She conceded that canceling the show was the appropriate decision. “In truth, my safety didn’t cross my mind at all. All I could think about was seeing Taylor! It was an incredibly selfish thought. I’m beyond relieved everyone is safe, and she made the right choice.”
Similar to numerous fans who ventured to Austria for this week’s concert, our experience was compounded by incessant flight disruptions, delays, and cancellations. “I was with my partner and my sister along with her spouse, and I exclaimed, ‘Oh my goodness, the absolute worst thing that could ever happen has happened!’ They responded, ‘Our flight got canceled?’ To which I replied, ‘No, it’s even worse.'”
Currently, numerous Taylor Swift enthusiasts have flooded European cities, transforming various city squares into venues for singing her songs. Despite the absence of the pop star herself, these gatherings have taken place. On Thursday, Glaser participated in one such event, describing it as “very heartwarming.” She intends to attend more over the weekend, but admits that “it just isn’t the same” without Taylor Swift being present.
“At various moments, everyone was singing their own tune, which made me think, ‘If only Taylor could join us to ensure we stay in rhythm!'”
Glaser contemplated organizing a humorous event for her fans in Vienna, but the idea never came to fruition. She admits that she doesn’t possess any content related to Taylor Swift that could be considered amusing because “I lack a sense of humor regarding Taylor Swift; I’m incredibly sincere about her.”
It’s fortunate that her carefully planned concert tour outfit won’t be left unused: “I’ll be touring the city on those open-top buses,” she declares, “wearing my ‘Tortured Poets’ choker and my bustier with a skirt. I need to make good use of it.”
