Nicole Kidman Wants to Work With Scorsese ‘If He Does a Film With Women’

As a seasoned film critic with over three decades of watching movies and analyzing performances under my belt, I must say that Nicole Kidman‘s call for Martin Scorsese to create a female-centric film is music to my ears. Having grown up on classics like “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull,” it’s high time that the director of such iconic male-dominated films gives women their due credit on the silver screen.


It’s time for Martin Scorsese to start writing a movie about a wealthy woman with hidden past, as he moves away from collaborations with Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and religious-themed films (unless it’s centered around one of the Marys). Nicole Kidman is eager to work with him on such a project. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she expressed her desire to work with Scorsese, stating, “I’ve always said I want to work with [Martin] Scorsese, if he does a film with women.” This comment has already stirred excitement among movie enthusiasts on Film Twitter. Although Sharon Stone in Casino, Margot Robbie in The Wolf of Wall Street, and Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon are examples of women in his previous works, the majority of Scorsese’s filmography explores the risks of criminal activity from a male perspective. His recent projects like The Irishman, The Departed, and Killers do not feature roles that Kidman could have taken on.

Ever since the 1990s, when films like “To Die For” (1995) and “The Portrait of a Lady” (1996) launched her career, Cate Kidman’s notable collaborations with Martin Scorsese have been limited, with only one exception – “The Aviator” in 2004, which featured strong female roles played by Cate Blanchett and Kate Beckinsale.
