Nicole Kidman Isn’t Brave Enough to Watch Babygirl

As a cinephile who has traversed the cinematic landscape for decades, I must say that Nicole Kidman‘s latest film, “Babygirl,” promises to be a daring and intense exploration of human complexity. Having witnessed her transformative performances in films such as “The Hours,” “Dogville,” and “Birth,” I am both intrigued and apprehensive about this new venture.

Nicole Kidman is eagerly anticipating the release of her latest film titled “Babygirl” but hasn’t decided yet on the specifics of how she’ll watch it. The movie will debut at the Venice International Film Festival on August 30, but Kidman seems hesitant due to its intended audience and the emotional intensity involved. “I feel there’s a part of me saying, This was meant for the big screen and to be experienced with an audience“, she explained to Vanity Fair on August 26. “But then there’s another voice in me saying, That’s a risky endeavor. I’m not sure I have that level of courage” she added, expressing some apprehension about the movie’s intense nature. It’s interesting to note that this is the same actress who portrayed Virginia Woolf in “The Hours“, a woman tormented by an entire town in “Dogville“, and a woman grappling with the possibility of her dead husband reincarnated as a 10-year-old boy in “Birth” over the span of just three years. She certainly has experience with intense roles, so it’s no surprise that she feels this way about “Babygirl“. In the sections below, you’ll find all the details about this highly anticipated film that seems to have left even Nicole Kidman somewhat taken aback.

What’s this scandalous movie about?

In the film “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” directed by Halina Reijn, Nicole Kidman portrays Romy, a corporate executive who’s married to a theater director. As the story unfolds, she becomes embroiled in a complex psychosexual relationship with her younger work intern. Over time, they discover and navigate their unique preferences, with the intern assuming a dominant role in their unconventional relationship.

What’s so sordid about it?

Apart from the fact that this movie featured an age gap where Kidman played the older character, it seems like the film pushed her into exposing extremely vulnerable aspects, even beyond what she’s accustomed to in her acting career. “It left me raw,” Kidman confided to Vanity Fair. “At one point I felt, ‘I don’t want to be touched. I don’t want to do this anymore,’ yet at the same time I was driven to carry on.” She also admitted that she isn’t comfortable with revealing so much publicly, stating, “This is something you typically conceal in home videos. It’s not usually something that gets shown to the world.”

Who else is in it?

In the movie, Kidman acts alongside two remarkably handsome gentlemen. Her on-screen spouse is portrayed by Antonio Banderas, whereas Harris Dickinson (from ‘Triangle of Sadness’) plays the role of the intern.

When’s it coming out?

The movie will have its premiere in Venice on August 30 and will be shown at TIFF. However, for those who can’t attend festivals, the film will become available to watch in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25th. Here’s to a great New Year!
