Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir Series Has a Release Date

Fans of Marvel are going to have to hold their excitement for a bit longer as they wait for the arrival of Nicolas Cage reprising his role as Spider-Man Noir. A recent update has shed light on the release date of Sony’s live-action Marvel series on MGM+.

As per reports, Spider-Noir is scheduled for release in early 2026 on MGM+ within the United States. Following its domestic debut, the series will be made available worldwide on Prime Video. Set against a backdrop of an alternate 1930s era, Spider-Noir tells the story of Cage’s worn-out and struggling private investigator character, who is compelled to confront his past as the city’s lone superhero. The upcoming series, masterminded by Steve Lightfoot, who has previously worked on The Punisher, will see Cage playing Spider-Man Noir for a second time. This follows his voice role in the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Announced as part of a broader collaboration between Sony and Amazon, unveiled in February 2023, this partnership will birth several live-action series inspired by Marvel’s Spider-Man comics. The intriguing title, Spider-Noir, is characterized as a grittier and adult-oriented interpretation of the Spider-Man universe. In Spider-Noir, Luka Haas portrays a subordinate to Brendan Gleeson’s New York mob boss, who recently revealed that the series was filmed in a way that accentuates its dark, mysterious atmosphere.

He stated in March 2025 that the project was truly remarkable. While we shot it, our monitors displayed only black and white footage, but it seemed incredibly authentic. The final product might be released in both color and black and white. However, during filming, it appeared as if it would only be black and white due to the filters they used. It gave an authentic 1930s black and white film feel. Filming it in a noir style was truly rewarding because it felt like genuine film noir, with its elongated shadows.

Spider-Noir Is Full of Familiar Faces

Apart from Cage, Haas, and Gleeson, the cast of Spider-Noir is made up primarily of TV veterans. Lamorne Morris from New Girl takes on the role of a young Robbie Robertson, while Andrew Robinson, famously known for his work in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has been cast in unspecified recurring roles. The cast also includes Abraham Popoola as a World War I veteran, Li Jun Li as a nightclub singer, and Jack Huston as a bodyguard. Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, and Andrew Caldwell make up the rest of the recurring cast members.

Should Spider-Noir debut early in the next year, it marks Sony’s initial live-action Spider-Man production. In contrast, the highly anticipated fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe-connected Spider-Man film featuring Tom Holland is set to start shooting later this year, with a planned release in July 2026. The casting process for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is ongoing, and actress Emma Sink recently joined the cast as one of the new characters. Though specifics about Sink’s character are still confidential, whispers hint she could portray either a villain or a love interest for Spider-Man, such as Black Cat or Gwen Stacy.

Spider-Noir will reportedly premiere on MGM+ in early 2026.
