As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have secured the North American distribution rights for “The Surfer,” an enthralling psychological thriller featuring the talented Nicolas Cage. This gripping film premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. I can hardly wait to see this cinematic masterpiece on the big screen!

The release date in 2025 for “The Surfer,” directed by Lorcan Finnegan, remains undecided. This film follows a man who goes back to his cherished childhood beach to surf with his son. However, the synopsis indicates that he encounters a group of dominant locals, leading him into a heated dispute during the scorching summer, ultimately testing his limits.

“Lauren Bixby, Lionsgate’s senior vice president of acquisitions and co-productions, praised Lorcan’s movie as a visually breathtaking experience with a vibrant color scheme. She added that Nicolas Cage delivers an outstanding performance in the film. We are thrilled to share this masterpiece with audiences in cinemas.”

Nicole Cage’s acting in the film is highly regarded by Roadside Attractions’ co-presidents Eric d’Arbeloff and Howard Cohen, who consider it one of his finest performances.

In simpler terms, Owen Gleiberman, EbMaster’s leading film critic, described “The Surfer” as a “quirkily chaotic and hallucinatory movie experience,” suggesting viewers to relax and enjoy the ride, with Johnny Depp making it an effortless process.

“In addition to Sam Worthington’s portrayal of ‘The Surfer,’ the film boasts an impressive cast including Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, Justin Rosniak, Rahel Romahn, Finn Little, and Charlotte Maggi. The screenplay was penned by Thomas Martin. The producers of this movie are Leonora Darby, James Harris, Robert Connolly, James Grandison, Brunella Cocchiglia, Cage, and Nathan Klingher. Furthermore, Apur Parikh, Robert Patterson, Finnegan, Mark Lane, Michael Rothstein, Sam Hall, Ford Corbett, Mark Fasano, Ryan Winterstern, Josh Harris, Greg Friedman, Jatin Desai, and François Tétaz serve as executive producers.”
