Nick Offerman Slams ‘Dumb F—‘ Who Edited ‘Parks and Recreation’ Scene to Spread Homophobic Hate: ‘Ron Was the Best Man at a Gay Wedding!’

1) Actor Nick Offerman started off Pride Month by standing up for the LGBTQ+ community against hateful remarks on platform X. The son of Michael Flynn, retired Army lieutenant general and former U.S. national security advisor under Trump, tried to use a clip from Offerman’s character Ron Swanson in “Parks and Recreation” as an attack on Pride Month.

I felt compelled to share my thoughts about ‘pride’ month, so I did,” I penned on platform, accompanied by a manipulated clip from “Parks and Recreation” that might seem like Swanson was being intolerant. However, the original scene, taken from the fourth season episode “The Trial of Leslie Knope,” actually shows Ron discarding his computer, not a rainbow flag as depicted in the edited version I shared on platform. The alteration replaced the computer with the rainbow flag.

“Ron was best man at a gay wedding you dumb fuck,” Offerman fired back on X. “Happy Pride.”

In the finale of “Parks and Recreation,” titled “One Last Ride,” Ron, played by Nick Offerman, serves as best man to his barber, Typhoon (Rodney To). This scene wasn’t enough to silence critics who might have prejudices, but Offerman certainly isn’t shy about defending his projects. For instance, when he won a Spirit Award in 2024 for his role in “The Last of Us,” he used his acceptance speech to criticize the show’s fans who were upset over an episode focusing on a romantic relationship between Offerman’s character, Bill, and Murray Bartlett’s Frank. This love story was central to the plot.

Offerman expressed gratitude towards HBO for joining in the brave tradition of independent storytelling. He said, ‘Stories with courage that when faced with homophobic criticism such as ‘Why did you make it a gay story?’, we reply, ‘Because your question itself prompts us to do so. It’s not just a gay story, it’s a love story, you bigot!’

Later on, Offerman responded to Michael Flynn Jr., following reports that actor Jonathan Joss, known for his role as Chief Ken Hotate in “Parks and Recreation”, had been fatally shot. Tristan Kern de Gonzales, Joss’ husband, claimed on Facebook that the shooting was motivated by homophobia and accused the perpetrator of being intolerant towards same-sex relationships, although the police have not yet disclosed the shooter’s reason.

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but feel utterly devastated upon learning about the untimely demise of Joss. The cast has been in constant communication all day, sharing our collective grief. Jonathan was more than just an actor to us; he was our Chief Ken Hotate, a role that he filled with such warmth and grace. This loss is truly heart-wrenching.

Ron was best man at a gay wedding you dumb fuck. #HappyPride
