In a recent interview during a promotional lie detector test for James Gunn’s upcoming superhero movie, Nicholas Hoult shared his thoughts on David Corenswet‘s performance as Superman, a role that Hoult himself had originally auditioned for.
As a film enthusiast, I recently had the privilege of attending an intimate Q&A where the cast shared genuine insights into their characters, their camaraderie on set, and some amusing confessions about fibbing (or rather, exaggerating) about their actual heights! It was a refreshingly candid conversation that added depth to my appreciation for the film.
What did Nicholas Hoult say about being a Superman?
As a devoted cinephile, I’m more than happy to express my sincere admiration for Nicholas Hoult’s candid opinions about David Corenswet’s outstanding portrayal of Superman. In an extraordinary lie detector test with Vanity Fair, these two talented individuals opened up about their unique bond.
In a fascinating twist, both the hero portrayed on screen (Corenswet) and his notorious adversary (Hoult) discussed their opinions about each other’s acting skills. Interestingly, Hoult had once vied for the part that eventually became Superman, which ultimately fell to Corenswet in another production.
Instead of asking if there was ever a moment during filming when Hoult felt he could perform the role more effectively, the actor inquired if there was a time when he (Hoult) thought he could improve upon his portrayal. To this, the Lex Luthor actor responded affirmatively, stating that it wasn’t about a specific scene, but rather an overall assessment of his performance.
In simpler terms, the X-Men actor remarked, “I tried out for the role of Superman. That tells you how challenging it is to portray such a character. Mostly when I watched you perform, I was struck by how effortlessly you seemed to do it.
He continued praising Corenswet’s captivating act, mentioning that he was taken aback by the depth she added to the character. Additionally, he confessed that other ideas swirled in his mind while honestly answering that particular question.
Corenswet confidently told him that he’d likely be taken aback if Hoult had answered “no” to that question. Indeed, more often than not, he’d find himself observing and thinking, “He is amazing; he’s absolutely killing it.
Later, Max Mad: Fury Road’s actor also consents when Corenswet proposes the idea of traveling together as Superman and exchanging roles each night. They both find this idea amusing and entertaining.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that starting July 11, I’ll be gracing the big screen once more – none other than Superman! The latest James Gunn masterpiece has been generating some serious buzz, with an impressive 82% positive response on Rotten Tomatoes. Can’t wait to catch it!
