I’m just over a fortnight away from witnessing Nicholas Hoult transform into Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman, but anyone who knows him wouldn’t be surprised since he’s no stranger to the superhero world. He brought Hank McCoy, aka Beast, to life in the X-Men films between 2011 and 2019, stepping into the role that Kelsey Grammer previously held. Now, Grammer is set to reprise his role as Beast in Avengers: Doomsday next year, and I couldn’t help but wonder if Hoult was ever approached about joining this or any other Marvel productions.
Nicholas Hoult’s Excited To See Kelsey Grammer And More In Avengers: Doomsday
In March, Marvel presented the cast of “Avengers: Doomsday” during a livestream. On display were director’s chairs bearing the names of the actors involved, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and James Marsden as Cyclops. Additionally, Channing Tatum was announced to reprise his role as Gambit, having previously appeared in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Here’s how Nicholas Hoult reacted to the cast announcement:
Kelsey was an exceptional character, much like the Beast I remember from my childhood. Alongside Patrick, Ian, James, and the rest of the cast they are reviving, he stood out as well.
The X-Men movie series, which debuted in 2000, played a significant role in boosting the superhero movie trend in Hollywood along with films like Blade and Spider-Man. In 2006, Kelsey Grammer portrayed Beast in X-Men: The Last Stand, where his character was shown as the Secretary of Mutant Affairs. He made a brief appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but his role within the franchise ended there, as 20th Century Fox held the film rights at that time. However, Nicholas Hoult continued to be associated with the series.
In the X-Men films, those were the personalities I had the pleasure of observing. I can’t wait to discover their future exploits. It promises to be intriguing to observe how they blend those characters into that universe.
As a fan excitedly looking forward to “Avengers: Doomsday,” I can’t help but reflect on Kelsey Grammer’s unique journey within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). You might recall his unexpected cameo as Beast in the post-credits scene of “The Marvels” a couple of years back. However, the Beast appearing in “Doomsday” is not the same character he portrayed earlier. Instead, this Beast is an entirely computer-generated imagery (CGI) creation who inhabits the same universe as the Maria Rambeau variant, better known as Binary. It’s intriguing to ponder if the Beast in “Doomsday” will be this version or another duplicate character.
Did Marvel Call Nicholas Hoult About Avengers: Doomsday?
Fans of Beast can anticipate their favorite blue-furred mutant leaping into action once more towards the end of the coming year. However, is there any truth to the rumor that Nicholas Hoult has talked with Marvel Studios about resuming the character? He simply replied with a brief “yes.
No.
There’s no room for debate or ambiguity about this situation. Since the main X-Men film series concluded in 2019 with “Dark Phoenix”, none of the original First Class cast members have reprised their roles. However, if the multiverse continues to play a part in Marvel Cinematic Universe narratives even after The Multiverse Saga concludes, there might be a time when this changes. For now, Michael Fassbender has plenty on his plate as he takes on the role of Lex Luthor in the DC Universe, given that his appearance as Magneto was not a one-time event in the Superman universe.
Here are the release dates for some upcoming movies featuring superheroes: Superman debuts in cinemas on July 11, followed by Supergirl keeping the DC Universe’s theatrical run going on June 26, 2026. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will conclude The Multiverse Saga on December 17, 2027.
