Nexus Mods’ New Owner Says There Won’t Be “Aggressive Monetization”

This week, Robin “DarkOne” Scott revealed that he had transferred ownership of Nexus Mods, a site he founded in 2001 and led for almost 24 years, to a new entity. However, Scott plans to continue working with Nexus Mods, helping shape its future direction. The new owner, known as Chosen, has reassured fans that the resource won’t undergo excessive monetization or unexpectedly require payment for mods.

As one of Nexus Mods’ dedicated fans, I was recently reassured by Scott’s statement about the trio who go by the names Foledinho (Victor), Rapsak (Marinus), and Taagen (Nikolai) – the three partners in Nexus Mods’ ownership under Chosen. There had been concerns that these partners might aim to monetize the site for short-term gains, exploiting its user base. However, Foledinho, one of them, took to Nexus Mods to assure us all: “Rest assured, mods will always remain free.

Essentially, Foledinho emphasized that there wouldn’t be significant changes ahead. He clarified that Chosen doesn’t assert ownership over any mods, nor does it charge users to download them. Moreover, he confirmed that Lifetime Premium subscriptions and free accounts will remain unaltered. Lastly, he expressed appreciation for how Scott structured the site’s monetization back in 2007.

According to Foledinho, they believe it was executed correctly as it fostered healthy development and catered to the community. There are no intentions to alter the fundamental structure of Premium. This approach offers users flexibility according to their requirements, which is indeed beneficial.

According to Foledinho, “Monetizing on Nexus Mods is challenging and the platform itself is intricate.” However, he emphasized that our primary focus remains on nurturing mod creators, pleasing our users, and ensuring the sustainability of the site. There will be no alteration in our fundamental model; we’re not planning any aggressive monetization or paid mods. Instead, we’ll strive for a reduction in advertisements, not an increase. We’ll prioritize our community, listen to their feedback, and never compromise on what makes Nexus Mods unique.

In a subsequent communication, it was confirmed that Chosen remains steadfast in upholding the multicultural and equal opportunity strategy that Scott championed throughout his tenure as owner.

I have received a reply concerning my inquiry about whether Nexus Mods’ strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as their moderation strategies aligned with that, will evolve under new management.

Currently, it appears as though Chosen has spoken words that suggest no major alterations are imminent for the fans. Yet, Foledinho hasn’t clarified exactly how the management intends to diminish advertisements on the platform without compromising the revenue generated by them.
