Starting this June, the well-established Newport Beach Film Festival is planning to debut its TV equivalent. The organization announced on Wednesday that they will host the first-ever Newport Beach TV Fest from June 5th to June 8th at the Lido Theater and The Port Theater in Newport Beach, California. This four-day event aims to honor television artistry and creative achievements while uniting industry professionals and audiences for a distinctive celebration of both established and up-and-coming talent, networks, and streaming services.
The timing of the Newport Beach TV Festival is carefully planned, aiming to coincide with the Emmy nomination voting period, following the conclusion of For Your Consideration (FYC) events. As stated by the festival organizers, their goal is to assemble “the largest assembly of Guild and Television Academy voters outside of Los Angeles or New York.” The event aims to celebrate creativity in television, provide a stage for groundbreaking storytelling, and engage an enthusiastic audience.

The scheduling of the Newport Beach TV Festival is strategic, as it takes place just before Emmy nomination voting begins and FYC events conclude. According to the organizers, their aim is to bring together “the largest group of Guild and Television Academy voters outside of Los Angeles or New York.” The festival seeks to honor creativity in television, offer a platform for innovative storytelling, and present these efforts to an energetic audience.
The upcoming Newport Beach Television Festival will feature several events such as the TV Awards Showcase for both Comedy and Drama, a highlight for unscripted productions, gatherings of past cast members, popular episode screenings, and a discussion with the show creators (or “showrunners”).
Over the past few years, the Newport Beach Film Festival has expanded its recognition to honor talented individuals from TV, with awards like the icon award for Eugene Levy (“Schitt’s Creek”) and the artist of distinction award for Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”). Other recipients include David Alan Grier and Wendi McClendon-Covey from “St. Denis Medical,” who received accolades for outstanding achievement in comedy, as well as Jane Lynch (“Only Murders in the Building”) for a similar honor. Ewan McGregor was awarded for his exceptional work in television with “A Gentleman in Moscow”, and “Star Trek: Outer Decks” was given a special fan screening.
Gregg Schwenk, CEO and executive director of the Newport Beach Film Festival, stated, ‘The world of television is more vibrant than ever before, and with the constant evolution of storytelling, the Newport Beach TV Fest marks a logical progression in our venture.’ For over two decades, we’ve been advocates for visionary filmmakers. Now, we’re excited to extend our mission by honoring the skill and innovation found in modern television. Newport Beach has always been a hotspot for artistic brilliance, and this TV Fest will further establish it as a top destination for the industry’s most promising creators.’
Bryce and Jackie Zabel, previously at the helm of the TV Academy, have been appointed as honorary chairs for the Newport Beach Television Festival. The couple are responsible for producing the limited series “Pandemic,” which won a WGA Award, and the WWII film “The Last Battle.” Additionally, Bryce has created five prime-time hour dramas in his career.
