New Xbox Feature Will Make Swapping Between Devices Even Easier

The process of moving between playing various games on multiple Xbox consoles is set to become more seamless, thanks to Microsoft’s introduction of a new Play History feature. This innovative tool allows for effortless tracking of the games you’ve engaged with across any Xbox device.

In an Xbox blog post, they announced that starting today, Xbox Insiders will begin receiving a fresh feature. On your Xbox’s home screen, you’ll notice a new list called “Resume Playing” showcasing games you’ve recently played on your specific device. This is similar to how consoles currently display frequently used games and apps, but marks a novelty for the Xbox PC app.

On both consoles and computer devices, a new feature called “Play History” button has been introduced. This button can be found at the end of the ‘Jump Back’ list (or on the far right side of the recently-played games and apps list on console). The Play History category will display all the games you’ve played across various devices, making it easier for those who switch between consoles, PCs, or Windows handhelds to quickly resume a game previously enjoyed on another device.

With the recent Insider update for Xbox, users now have the convenience of sorting their games as “cloud-playable” within the Xbox PC application. This new feature simplifies finding games that can be streamed directly from the cloud, eliminating the necessity to download them first.

To start receiving advance updates and new features ahead of others for your gaming platform, simply download the Xbox Insider application onto your console or via the Microsoft Store on your computer, then sign up for either the Xbox Early Access Program or the PC Gaming Preview, depending on whether you’re using a console or PC.

Over the past year, Xbox has aggressively expanded its presence across various devices beyond just the console, emphasizing that any Windows device can essentially function as an “Xbox”. This summer, Microsoft unveiled a handheld PC under the Xbox brand, named the ROG Xbox Ally, which is expected to hit stores later this year.

Earlier this month, Microsoft carried out significant job cuts affecting approximately 9,000 employees, with a notable number hailing from Xbox studios. Consequently, the development of games such as Perfect Dark and Rare’s Everwild has been canceled due to these layoffs.
