Electronic Arts was recently acquired in a deal worth $55 million. There’s speculation that Ubisoft could be the next big company to be bought.
Is Ubisoft going to be bought out?
Recent online chatter suggests someone may be interested in acquiring Ubisoft. An industry source known as Detective Seeds shared on X that a purchase is being seriously considered. A Ubisoft employee reportedly confirmed this, adding that the potential buyer isn’t based in the United States.
The recent pause in trading of Ubisoft stock is because the company is in serious talks about a potential acquisition – someone is looking to buy Ubisoft.
I didn’t learn the buyer’s identity, only that they aren’t based in the US and there had been talk about them for some time.
I inquired about when trading might start again, and was told they weren’t certain. However, representatives from possible buyers have been visiting the studios to review projects, leading them to believe a deal could be happening soon.
The day before, Omar Alamoudi shared a post wondering if “all the biggest third-party companies in the world” could be acquired within a single generation. He included a picture featuring the logos of Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft. While he clarified it was just a thought experiment and not a leak, the timing of his post coincided with a message from Detective Seeds, making the connection hard to ignore.
While it’s currently unclear who might be looking to acquire Ubisoft, many believe Tencent is a likely candidate. This makes sense, as Tencent has already invested heavily in the company, signaling a strong interest.
Ubisoft hasn’t officially commented on the rumors yet, and it’s best to view them with skepticism until confirmed. We’ll let you know right away if we receive any official updates.
