New Transparent Xbox Special-Edition Controller Is Straight Out Of The 2000s, Available Next Month

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the Xbox Ghost Cipher wireless controller has caught my eye like a rare Pokémon hiding in tall grass. The 2000s aesthetic is a nostalgic throwback to my younger days, and the transparent design offers an intriguing glimpse into the heart of the controller.

Microsoft is drawing on the visual appeal of designs from the 2000s for its newly unveiled Xbox Ghost Cipher wireless controller. Although the internal components remain unchanged, it’s the external features that truly stand out. Boasting a see-through design, silver inner parts, metallic accents, and more, this controller really catches the eye. It will be available from October 8, with a price tag of $70 via the Xbox Store.

For the first time in a while, Microsoft isn’t debuting a unique Xbox controller for the first time – the 20th anniversary model had a darker transparent shell with green accents, and there was also the Sky Cipher with its striking blue hue this year. However, what sets this design apart is that it offers an unparalleled view of the device’s internal workings. The top case is completely clear, allowing you to see metallic and silver components gleaming from within. To add a touch of sophistication, the controller features bronze metallic triggers, a coordinating D-pad, and rubberized grips in an ash gray tone.

To clarify, the controller in question shares similarities with one that debuted four years ago. It remains a versatile, dependable tool due to its robust build, resilient face buttons, and handy share button. This device is compatible not only with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, but also wirelessly on PCs and smartphones using Bluetooth. Despite not being as sophisticated as Sony’s DualSense controller, it remains a comfortable option for extended gaming sessions. Additionally, it offers impressive battery life, allowing you the choice between regular AA batteries or a rechargeable battery pack.
