New Tomb Raider Game Still in Development, Safe From Embracer’s Recent Cuts

As a seasoned Tomb Raider fan with over two decades of following Lara Croft’s thrilling escapades, I must say that the recent events surrounding Crystal Dynamics have left me both anxious and intrigued. The layoffs at Embracer Group have cast a shadow over the gaming industry, but it seems that our beloved studio responsible for Lara’s next adventure has managed to weather the storm.

Enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the upcoming Tomb Raider title from Crystal Dynamics, as it promises a revival of Lara Croft’s lively and self-assured demeanor. Given their impressive work on her most recent reboot trilogy, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding their next project, with fans setting high expectations.

A portion of the enthusiasm was dampened when Embracer let go of their workforce and closed several studios. It’s no surprise that people were concerned about Crystal Dynamics, but it appears that they managed to weather these reductions successfully.

Christoph Hartmann, who leads Amazon Games, stated that Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming Tomb Raider game is generally unaffected by Embracer Group’s various choices. In an interview with IGN (through GamesRadar), Hartmann clarified there were no significant adjustments to the studio responsible for developing Lara Croft’s next journey.

Hartmann explains to IGN that while people may consider the parent company’s actions, they have not affected resources or management changes for them. In other words, they’re functioning well. Regarding a new Tomb Raider game, he notes that the standards are extremely high and continue to rise over time, making it an immense undertaking. However, progress is being made, and there are some exceptional ideas in development.

Information about the upcoming Tomb Raider game is scarce beyond its revamped character design. In February of last year, Crystal Dynamics launched a remastered version of Tomb Raider I-III on various platforms, garnering positive feedback from both fans and critics. Additionally, a new Tomb Raider animated series is set to debut on Netflix this year, featuring Hayley Atwell as the voice of the famous character.
