Everyone appreciates a little stability, and Nintendo feels the same way about its Switch consoles. They’ve just released updates for both the original Switch and the new Switch 2, focusing on improving performance and bringing both systems to version 21.1.0.
Nintendo released new updates for both the Switch and the newer Switch 2 yesterday, December 8th. The updates are identical and simply improve the overall stability of the systems, aiming for a better user experience. Interestingly, a similar update for the Switch 2 was released in September, and Nintendo has often been playfully teased about releasing stability patches over the years.
Last month, Nintendo released an update for both the Switch 2 and the original Switch. This update improved how games are displayed on the home screen, making it easier to tell the difference between digital and physical copies. It also enhanced GameChat and made the systems more stable overall.
The Switch 2 has been a huge success since its release in June, already selling 10 million units and breaking sales records. Nintendo now expects the console to sell 19 million units by the end of March – an increase from their earlier prediction of 15 million.
The highly anticipated game, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, was recently released on both Nintendo Switch consoles. While it appears visually sharper on the newer Switch 2, the game still performs well on the original Switch.
Below are the patch notes for version 21.1.0:
