A user who played the two-player version of Nintendo Switch’s Pokémon game with more than a thousand hours of gaming experience across two decades was left heartbroken when they inadvertently erased their save file during data transfer from their initial console.
Now that Nintendo Switch 2 is out, people are eagerly buying it to explore numerous games offered, such as an upgraded edition of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This game boasts not just better visuals but also performs more seamlessly on the latest gaming platform.
For any enthusiast of Pokémon starting their adventure on Nintendo Switch 2, the overall experience is expected to be thrilling. However, this excitement wasn’t shared by one user who unfortunately lost their entire save file while transferring their original Pokémon data from their OLED model to their new Switch 2.
Pokemon player shares painful experience after data transfer on Switch 2 goes wrong

In a discussion on Reddit, a user lamented that they inadvertently deleted a save file with over 1,000 hours of gameplay and 20 years’ worth of progress in “Mons,” following the setup process for their new Nintendo Switch 2 during data transfer. Initially, they reported that the startup and initial data transfer seemed to go smoothly without any issues.
Previously, they thought they had successfully moved their save file for Scarlet or Violet. But when they launched the game, instead of loading the transferred save file as expected, they ended up at the language selection and new character creation screen, as their save file for Scarlet turned out to be missing.
The user stated that there was absolutely no issue with the data transfer process; it went smoothly. All their other Pokemon data remains intact, except for Scarlet. Their Pokemon collection spans from their original Game Boy Advance to the present day, amounting to approximately 20 years of data.
Not only did they break your spirit by saying there was no remaining data on their old Nintendo Switch, but they also mentioned that they had supposedly lost the Pokémon they cherished most, which were saved in a file that has since been deleted. This deleted save file contained Pokémon from games as far back as Leaf Green and Diamond.
It got to the point where the user said they didn’t even know if they wanted to play anymore.
Additional supporters echoed their sentiments, providing comfort through words, while a few also provided guidance as suggestions.
Did I understand correctly that there’s only one user on the system? Oh dear, I’m truly sorry to hear that… It really touched me to read that… Sending you a big virtual hug.
“Apologies for any confusion. I’ve jotted down your advice. Absolutely, I’ll be transferring all my Pokémon to the Pokémon Home before making any moves with a Switch 2. As for the monthly fee, I’m leaning towards being cautious about it.” (Said by a fan)
