From one Superman to another, David Corenswet was told to enjoy the role of a lifetime.
At the UK premiere of the film, Corenswet conversed with radio personalities about his initial role as DC’s lead superhero and the guidance he received from actors who had previously portrayed Superman. “I was fortunate enough to correspond with two prior Supermen, Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin,” he shared, characterizing the stars of Man of Steel and Superman & Lois as being quite supportive and having a pleasant exchange. He expressed eagerness to meet them someday, adding that it would be wonderful when they could all gather together in person.
Corensweit mentioned that the main guidance Cavill and Hoechlin offered him was to enjoy the role, similar to how Superman himself might approach it.
In simpler terms, Henry Cavill’s role as Superman came to an end with his appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but he made a brief post-credit appearance in Black Adam later on. Most of the timeline featuring Cavill has been replaced by the new DC Universe (DCU), but the marketing for Peacemaker season 2 suggests that there might be a multiverse crossover to explain this transition between universes.
Initially, Hoechlin debuted on the CW’s show, Supergirl, and consistently appeared in the Arrowverse. Later, he starred in his own series, Superman & Lois, which garnered praise from many critics. However, the show ended after four seasons, although it was later established as a separate universe due to the unique family dynamic of its title characters and the cancellation of all other Arrowverse programs.
Corenswet Is the New Man of Steel
Before starring as Superman, Corenswet has had notable roles in the horror prequel Pearl and disaster film Twisters. These roles have hinted at various aspects of Superman’s life, such as battling giant monsters to save Metropolis, working alongside his colleagues at the Daily Planet as Clark Kent. Although it remains undecided where Superman and his supporting characters will make appearances beyond the solo film, Corenswet has expressed interest in returning as Lois Lane, stating, “I would feel incredibly fortunate to have the chance to revisit such an iconic role. I hope that I’ll get the opportunity to explore other roles and universes, but always have the chance to return to this.
At present, Cavill is busy with several upcoming roles such as “In the Grey,” “Highlander,” and notably, he’s set to reprise his role as the renowned detective Sherlock Holmes in a future project. On the other hand, Hoechlin is currently lending his voice to Sephiroth in the ongoing remakes of “Final Fantasy VII.” Interestingly, this villain was previously voiced by George Newbern, a veteran Superman voice actor.
Superman premieres in theaters on July 11.
