New Strategy Game That Closely Resembles Advance Wars Is Releasing Soon

While Warside may share some resemblances to Advance Wars in appearance and gameplay, it stands as a unique title all its own. Expected to launch for PC on the 14th of April, with a console version following shortly thereafter.

In a fresh trailer for the game, Publisher First Break Labs unveiled the release date of Warside. The turn-based strategy game appears to have strong resemblance to Advance Wars, as it features soldiers, tanks, and aircraft that can be maneuvered across a map divided into squares or tiles. Remarkably, the pixel art style bears striking similarities to the popular Nintendo series.

Warside is known as a “swift-moving, strategy game with turns” and it plans to deliver a story mode along with multiplayer functionality. First Break Labs also mentions that there will be 14 commanders to play with, each having their unique passive abilities and powers, more than 30 types of units, and a map editor for customization.

It seems that this is the initial game title from developer Lavabird Games. Their team successfully crowdfunded Warside through Kickstarter in 2023, eventually signing with First Break Labs in 2024. A demo version of the game was made available for free on PC in September.

Beyond PC, Warside is also slated for release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Regarding Advance Wars, it’s worth noting that Nintendo last revisited this series with the remake collection, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which is set to debut in 2023. Initially planned for an earlier release, this Switch-exclusive game experienced a delay in March 2022 due to global events, often speculated to be related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
