In anticipation of the fifth and upcoming final season of Stranger Things this year, Sandbox VR has unveiled a fresh tie-in experience in virtual reality for the beloved Netflix series. This new venture is similar to previous projects like Squid Game Virtuals and Rebel Moon: The Descent. Titled Stranger Things: Catalyst, it’s an immersive location-based VR game where participants can team up with friends to confront the eerie supernatural perils that haunt the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana.
In virtual reality (VR), several famous settings from the Stranger Things series have been replicated, enabling players to engage with special powers against dreadful creatures originating from the Upside Down dimension. As stated by Steve Zhao, Founder and CEO of Sandbox VR, this game lets fans of Stranger Things “experience physically being part of the narrative they’ve followed throughout the seasons.” Additionally, Sandbox VR’s games feature haptic feedback vests, enhancing the immersive nature of their offerings. It is worth mentioning that a separate VR title for Stranger Things was previously launched in 2017, specifically for PlayStation 4.
In the near future, you won’t be able to play Stranger Things: Catalyst at home; instead, you’ll have to visit a Sandbox VR location when season five of Stranger Things is released in November. However, another licensed property is on its way to VR headsets for home use. This time it’s Deadpool, the infamous Marvel character, who will be starring in a new game designed for Meta Quest 3 and 3S, due later this year. Players will embark on an adventure to Mojoworld where they’ll face off against classic X-men villains.
Actor Neil Patrick Harris, known for voicing Spider-Man in previous Marvel productions, now breathes life into the character of Deadpool’s regenerating degenerate. Ryan Reynolds, the live-action star of Deadpool, offered a fitting reaction to this announcement.
