New ‘Stranger Things’ Squishmallows to Be Released as Netflix Sets Halloween Screenings, Themed Hub and More

As a seasoned movie critic with a soft spot for Halloween and 80s nostalgia, I must say that Netflix has truly outdone themselves this year! The sheer magnitude of their “Stranger Things”-inspired offerings is enough to make even the most hardened cynic feel like a kid on Halloween night.


This Halloween, Netflix is coming up with a variety of chilling experiences for fans to enjoy. They’re offering a movie screening series, exclusive “Stranger Things” merchandise like new Squishmallows, live events, and even costume ideas. The aim is to keep viewers captivated by spooky content throughout October, whether it’s in person or on streaming. This includes the newly launched Netflix & Chills Halloween hub, featuring videos that guide viewers through themed sections such as “Creative Costume Ideas” and a “Halloween Party Playlist.

In terms of merchandising partnerships, Squishmallows is teaming up with the Stranger Things series to introduce four fresh plush toys inspired by the show, such as Max Mayfield and Vecna, which will be available only on Walmart’s online store starting in November. Other merchandise related to the show includes a large 7-foot inflatable Demogorgon, Stranger Things pumpkin decorating and carving kits, and a Hellfire Club party set.

On October 31st, the streamer is hosting a special Halloween screening of “Stranger Things” Season 2’s episode titled “Trick or Treat, Freak” at Hollywood’s Egyptian Theatre. This event will offer photo opportunities, snacks, music, and prizes.

Netflix is inviting fans to don costumes inspired by their favorite characters from various hit shows. They’ve provided suggestions for themes like Emily Cooper from “Emily in Paris,” Luffy, Eleven and Jim Hopper from Stranger Things, The Bridgerton Family, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, and many others.

Meanwhile, over at Pacific Palisades’ Bay Theater, a screening series is being held that caters to fans of horror with films like “Hubie Halloween,” “The Witches,” and more.

Commencing in New York City on October 11, “Squid Game: The Experience” is all set to provide enthusiasts with a chance to challenge their friends and family in thrilling games. Meanwhile, Six Flags Fright Fests are introducing fresh rides that are themed around “Stranger Things” and Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead.

Netflix highlights that, during October 2023, horror and related genres appeared in the U.S. Top 10 list over 20 occasions. Some of the popular titles featured were “The Fall of the House of Usher” Limited Series, “Reptile”, along with licensed shows like “Casper”, “Get Out”, and “Us.
