As an old-school gamer with a soft spot for post-apocalyptic and culturally rich RPGs, I can’t help but be intrigued by Showa American Story. The blend of American B-movies and Japanese pop-culture in a setting where the United States is a colony of Japan? That’s like a mashup made in gaming heaven!
2P Games and developer Nekcom recently unveiled fresh images of their latest project, titled “Showa American Story“. (IGN report)
The Showa American Story, first unveiled in January 2022, is set in an alternate ’80s/’90s America, which has transformed into a Japanese colony following a post-apocalyptic event. This unique setting combines elements of American B-movies and Japanese pop-culture. Unfortunately, since the game’s announcement, updates have been few and far between.
According to IGN’s interview with creative director XY.Luo, a character named Gokou will be encountered by players. This unique character embodies elements of both an American cowboy and a Japanese samurai. In this game’s alternate history, Gokou is depicted as the Governor of Texas, who allegedly sold Texas land to Japan. He is not the ultimate boss or the main antagonist in the storyline.
Additional snapshots have been posted, demonstrating enhancements in graphic quality since the game transitioned from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. You can view these improvements in the gallery provided below. Additionally, we’ve added screenshots that were previously published on the game’s Steam page at the end of 2023.
The upcoming tale, “Showa American Story,” is scheduled to launch on both PlayStation 5 consoles and Steam for PC users. However, the official release date has yet to be announced.
