They’ve given us an inside peek at some new characters, as well as shedding light on the Protection, O.B., and equipment systems that promise to make this game even more captivating!

2025 sees the arrival of Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero, a game that’s slated for release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Initially, the console editions will hit the market, with the Steam version arriving later in the same year.

Not long ago, NIS America unveiled details about the game’s combat system along with images, highlighting the Confine and Confriend mechanisms.

Phantom Brave: The Missing Champion
Delve deeper into discovering the array of distinct personalities who accompany Marona during her voyages across Ivory Coast, plus innovative game mechanics such as Protection, O.B., and others.
Additional Characters
Marona, a girl gifted with the ability to perceive spirits, teams up with her spectral companion Ash as they traverse different islands, acting as Chromas – problem-solvers hired for specific tasks. As she moves forward, she’ll ally with an assortment of unique characters hailing from various lands within Ivoire on this adventure.
Rouen
A First Mate Fluent in Sarcasm
“…Ugh, what a bunch of softies. Some pirates you are…”
A member of a pirate crew, specifically the Argento Pirates, who served as the first mate and trusted lieutenant of their captain, known as Apricot’s father. Despite appearing indifferent and pessimistic, he possesses a kind heart. He affectionately refers to Apricot as “Princess” and, while occasionally teasing her, demonstrates a protective instinct towards her. Previously, five years before the game’s events, he attempted to safeguard Apricot and others from the Shipwreck Fleet but unfortunately could not prevent their deaths.
Henna
“A Queen Whose Influence Lingers Even Beyond the Grave!” (The original quote is from the musical Phantom of the Opera and the paraphrase attempts to convey a sense of mystery, power, and influence.)
In the realm of the Hasara Island, predominantly composed of sand, once reigned a Queen whose lineage held the throne for generations. Traditionally, it was the women who governed this land. Yet, during her youth and inexperience, she made ill-advised political moves that led to her untimely demise at the hands of a coup. Posthumously, she returned as a spectral figure within the Hasara Kingdom, utilizing an enchanting power to command others and transform them into her followers. This ghostly presence clashes with her biological younger sister who now occupies the throne.
Urumi
A Ghostly Force of Nature
“Freeze! Freeze! Freeze! All of you, freeze!”
A spirit boy dwells on the eternally snow-covered Snowfall Island, a frigid, icy land. As a child, he tragically lost his life long ago, yet gained the power to materialize and manipulate the local weather conditions. Despite his youthful visage, he wields immense strength, often making the island’s climate harsher, leading to the demise of many of its inhabitants. Consequently, the islanders refer to him as an “evil spirit” out of their dread and apprehension towards him.
Mayfair
A Swashbuckling Pirate Par Excellence
“My crew is my family. A true swashbuckler doesn’t crush someone
who saved their family.”
1. The head of a particular pirate band resembles an older sister figure. In Marona’s journey, she makes an appearance when Marona and her associates reach Versailles, a lush island that is generally off-limits to strangers. On this secluded island, she safeguards it from poachers. Once she decides on something, she moves forward with unwavering determination, placing great importance on the spirit of an adventurer and her loved ones above all else. She refers to her team as family, and at times acts as a stern trainer while at others, a nurturing guardian.
System
In Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero, there are numerous distinct mechanics designed for a tailored “play as you prefer” battle experience. Let’s delve deeper into Protection, a trait shared by characters and items on the game map, O.B., which permits you to push enemies and objects off the map, and Equip Items, enabling you to attach various map elements such as trees, rocks, and even adversaries!
Protection
Decide whether to use the effects of an item or destroy it!
Protection is a special ability that certain characters or items on the map can make use of. It is indicated by a flowing line linking whatever can make use of it. By using Protection, you can enjoy even deeper strategy in battle!
Different forms of Protection impact numerous aspects, including boosting the potency of an attack (Increase Attack Power by x%), reducing the Defense stat of a target by x% (Decrease Defense by x%), preventing movement, thereby keeping a target stationary, limiting actions, amplifying Out-of-Bounds damage by x% (Increase Out-of-Bounds Damage by x%), causing enemies within a character’s reach to focus on them (Attracting Aggro), and numerous other effects.
1. Eliminating the entity or object responsible for the Protection’s activation makes its impact vanish. Furthermore, if you isolate the source of the Protection, it will acquire that very protection itself. Give it a try and explore different strategies to employ it effectively in combat!
As a gamer, here’s how I might put it: “Notice that glowing rock on the map? That bad boy is boosting enemy attack power by 10%. It’s linked to them and the grass too, making things real dangerous. If you can take it down, those extra points will vanish from the enemies. On the other hand, if you corner an ally in that protected grass or next to that rock, they’ll snatch up some of that power boost for themselves instead. It’s your call – choose wisely!”
O.B.
Throw obstacles off the map!

Through the “Throw” action, objects can exit the play area by being tossed beyond its boundaries. Additionally, objects can be thrown onto an icy surface, allowing them to slide off the edge of the map. Furthermore, objects can be hurled from a significant height, causing them to leave the playable zone or go out-of-bounds. This way, both player actions and the unique features of the terrain can influence Out-of-Bounds (O.B.) events.
Also, if an item goes O.B., that item will disappear.
For example, if there is an item that you want, if an enemy throws it and it lands O.B., it will disappear. Sometimes, it might be necessary to Confine in an item you want before engaging with the enemy. If the item has a Phantom confined in it, a message that says “Plundered!” will appear, and you will get that item.
Equip Items
Trees, flowers and even enemies can be weapons!
In this game, a wide variety of items can be used. It’s not just swords, staffs, or map markers – even common objects like rocks and flowers, as well as the opponents you encounter, can be utilized too!
Things on the map like characters and items can be equipped by “lifting” them.
Items that characters carry come with both skills and abilities. By using these items, characters can employ their skills and experience the benefits of their associated abilities.

Additionally, once you fulfill specific requirements, you’ll be able to master these Skills and Capabilities for good. Acquiring potent Skills and Capabilities will undoubtedly prove beneficial during future challenges!
When a character gets hurt, either an item they’re carrying or another character steps in to absorb some of the harm! However, if the carried item’s health points drop to zero, it will be discarded. Similarly, if the supporting character’s health depletes to zero, they become incapacitated and can no longer engage in combat. If this protective item or ally is hit again, they collapse and vanish from the battlefield.
