Sony has recently updated their blog, revealing upcoming features for participants in the PlayStation beta program. As per the announcement, these new features will be accessible starting today, July 24th, and encompass enhancements for both the PlayStation 5 console and DualSense controllers. Notably, the update includes a long-requested feature for controller settings that players have been eagerly anticipating. However, it’s worth noting that consoles may experience reduced performance in specific situations (similar to Game Pro).
Energy saving in PS5
In the upcoming features discussed by Sony, they mentioned an energy-saving mode that will operate even during gaming sessions. This feature aligns with their efforts to lessen emissions, as emphasized on their blog. However, in the current beta version, this energy-saving setting can be found within the console settings, but the system does not yet support its activation.
Once the updated version is launched, players can look forward to energy-efficient gaming. Upon activation, the game will optimize its energy usage, albeit at the cost of certain features and settings within compatible titles. Notably, Virtual Reality gameplay will be temporarily suspended in these games that are energy-saving compliant. However, if a specific game lacks this feature, the overall gaming experience will remain unaffected.
Connecting DualSense with various devices
Previously, connecting the DualSense controller to different devices required repeated pairing. However, Sony has now introduced a new feature allowing the controller to recall up to four devices selected by users. This means you can effortlessly move between devices without needing to re-establish a connection.
As a gamer, I can customize each device I want to use during gameplay to any button on my PlayStation controller – cross, triangle, square, or circle. Sony’s handy guide helps me set this up with ease.
- Make sure the light bar and player indicator on your controller is off. If they’re turned on, press and hold the PS button until they turn off.
- Press and hold one of the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square) and the PS button for over 5 seconds. The light bar and player indicator flash two times.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your device, and select the option to add Bluetooth devices.
- Select your controller from the detected devices. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.
As Sony explains, activating your designated device is just as straightforward. Begin by powering up your device, followed by holding down both the chosen action key and the PS button simultaneously for a duration of three seconds. Once that’s done, the controller should link automatically, allowing you to dive right into your game.
