New PS5 Update Adds Welcome Hub And Lets You Change Its Background

As a seasoned gamer with decades of console wars under my belt, I must say that Sony’s latest PS5 update has me all fired up! The Welcome Hub, a personalized space tailored to my gaming preferences, is like a breath of fresh air. It’s about time we gamers got a slice of the customization pie.

Sony has just released an update for the PS5, introducing a fresh page known as the Welcome Hub, which allows users to personalize their background, alongside additional features.

The Welcome Hub is a dedicated personal space where players can prioritize and customize widgets to focus on features that matters to them the most. For example, the widgets include being able to quickly see console storage, Trophies, and battery levels at a glance. For US players, the Welcome Hub will be replacing the current Explore tab. The feature will be gradually released to other regions outside of the US, starting with Japan and select countries in Europe, then the rest of the world.

Players have the option to customize the backdrop of their Welcome space, with a selection of pre-set options or an image from the Media Gallery available for choice. In the coming weeks, the PS5 will allow users to share party voice chat links on any messaging or social media platform. This feature enables players to extend invitations to their friends to participate in a party voice chat, regardless if they’re not on your PlayStation Network friend list. By clicking the link on their mobile device, friends can join the party directly on their PS5 or via the PlayStation App.

Originally in July, Sony was experimenting with various functionalities including custom 3D audio profiles, unique remote play options, and adaptive controller recharging. Today, these functionalities are being released worldwide. It’s worth mentioning that the adaptive controller charging feature is exclusive to PS5 Slim and the recently unveiled PS5 Pro models.
