The upcoming PS5 system upgrade will bring a novel wireless controller synchronization function. Additionally, Sony hinted at the introduction of an energy-saving mode called “Power Saver,” which is expected to be rolled out in the future.
In a recent blog post, Sony announced that their DualSense controller, along with other PS5 accessories, can now be utilized on PC, Mac, and mobile devices. The latest update streamlines the process of connecting controllers to multiple devices at once, allowing for smoother transitions between them without requiring repetitive pairing processes, as stated by Sony.
In the latest update, multiple devices can be synchronized simultaneously with up to four devices. Earlier, users had to re-pair each device whenever they connected a different controller. Sony has announced that you’ll soon be able to effortlessly transfer your paired DualSense controller between various platforms such as PC or smartphones.
Here are the guidelines provided by Sony on linking a DualSense controller to numerous devices and toggling among them, presented in a more conversational and straightforward manner:
Sony has shared some simple steps for connecting your DualSense controller to multiple devices and switching between them. Let’s go through it together!
1. First, ensure that the device you want to pair with (like your PlayStation 5 or PC) is turned on and ready to connect.
2. Press and hold the PS button located in the center of your DualSense controller until the light bar begins flashing. This indicates that it’s in pairing mode.
3. On your device, navigate to its Bluetooth settings menu (you might need to go into Developer Options on Android devices).
4. Locate and select “Wireless Controller” from the list of available devices. If prompted for a passcode, enter “0000.”
5. Once paired successfully, your DualSense controller should now be ready to use with this device. The light bar will stop flashing and remain steady.
6. To switch between connected devices, simply press and hold the PS button on your controller until it connects to the desired device. The light bar’s color will correspond to the chosen device (e.g., blue for PlayStation 5).
How to pair a DualSense controller to multiple devices:
- Make sure the light bar and player indicator on your controller is off. If they’re turned on, press and hold the PS button until they turn off.
- Press and hold one of the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square) and the PS button for over 5 seconds. The light bar and player indicator flash two times.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your device, and select the option to add Bluetooth devices. Your device detects nearby Bluetooth devices.
- Select your controller from the detected devices. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.
How to switch between devices:
- Turn on the device you want to connect to.
- Press and hold one of the action buttons and the PS button for about 3 seconds. When the light bar and player indicator blink, release both buttons. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.
Concerning the Power Saver mode, this is a fresh setting that enables certain PS5 games to operate using less power, thereby lessening our environmental footprint. This initiative is aligned with Sony’s “Road to Zero” environmental strategy, which aims to attain carbon neutrality (net-zero greenhouse gas emissions) by the year 2040.
When you activate Power Saving mode, certain PlayStation 5 games may operate at a lower performance level to conserve energy. However, it’s important to note that this could potentially affect Virtual Reality mode and some specific gaming features. Sony has confirmed this information.
Sony has shared that they will reveal further information about the new feature as the launch approaches, including a list of compatible PlayStation 5 games and an estimate of its expected effects. So, keep an eye out for updates.
Back when I was a fan, around a decade back, Microsoft rolled out an energy-saving feature for their Xbox console. Fast forward to 2020, CNET uncovered that both Sony and Microsoft have stepped up their game in terms of energy efficiency with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, it was interestingly noted that the power consumption in the latest games surpassed the previous generation’s levels quite noticeably.
