As a gamer, I’m excited to share that I can now lease PS5, PlayStation VR 2, and PlayStation Portal devices from Sony in the UK and Japan! In the UK, they’ve teamed up with Raylo for this initiative, offering flexible plans ranging from 12-, 24-, and 36-month terms.
The cost of leasing the digital slim model of the PS5 begins at £11 per month over a 36-month period. Prices increase as lease durations decrease. Leasing the PS5 Pro, however, starts at £19 per month for a 36-month term, with monthly costs rising to £27 for a 12-month lease. Sony provides flexible monthly leases that can be canceled anytime, but these are pricier, costing £36 per month for the PS5 Pro.
It seems this isn’t a rent-to-own scheme; instead, the leasing site indicates that “When you return your device at the end of your selected lease period, your agreement will be completed.
Individuals have the option to lease PSVR 2 at a monthly rate of £18.50 for a period of 36 months, the PlayStation Portal at £6.50 per month for 36 months, and a DualSense Edge controller at £7.50 per month over 36 months.
Raylo’s policy allows for the return of devices that show typical signs of wear, such as deep scratches, minor dents, or discoloration. However, any noticeable cracks, severe aesthetic damage, or malfunctions fall outside this policy and may lead to fees being charged.
If you’re keen on renting a PlayStation device through Raylo, feel free to check out their leasing site for further details and submit your order.
In Japan, I’ve found an intriguing leasing program that seems to be a hit! According to Automaton, it’s so popular that the rental slots have been filled up already. Unfortunately, there’s no news yet about whether this exciting lease program might make its way across the Pacific Ocean to reach us here in the US.
Back in the day, Microsoft introduced Xbox All Access – a subscription model where American gamers could purchase an Xbox with a payment plan reminiscent of mobile phone plans. However, it seems this service may no longer be offered or has been reduced in scale within the U.S., but it’s still accessible in New Zealand.
The PlayStation 5 Professional, retailing at around $700 USD, falls into the category of one of the costliest video game consoles to date. It’s not primarily designed for casual gamers, as Sony is more focused on appealing to dedicated enthusiasts who place less emphasis on price.
