New production company, Veloche Productions, is set to make its debut at the Cannes Film Market.
The initiative kicks off by releasing a chilling horror movie, while also establishing a special production budget geared towards nurturing talent from the Indian subcontinent, who often struggle to secure funding through conventional industry and studio channels.
From July to September 2025, the fund will be open for submissions. Winners will be announced in October. This is the inaugural project of the company, established by Debanjali Kamstra, a U.A.E.-based entrepreneur who was crowned Mrs. Earth in 2023, and Sandhya Ramachandran, an Indian film industry veteran with experience as creative director at Rose Movies, agent to Bollywood star Katrina Kaif, manager of Salman Khan’s Being Human brands portfolio, and CEO of UBT, his talent agency.
For their first venture, Veloche Productions is planning an English-language horror movie influenced by Indian folklore and the mystic traditions of India. This project will be led by Salil Jason Fernandes as director, along with creative producer Aliya Curmally, with filming slated to start in early 2026.
Actress Kamstra is all set to mark her first on-screen appearance in “30 Days of Autumn,” a film adaptation by director Sudipto Roy based on Rabindranath Tagore’s renowned short story “The Postmaster.” This extended short film will have its global debut at the Cannes market, in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Kamstra noted that there’s an abundance of remarkable filmmaking skill in the Indian subcontinent, which has been evident through the diverse films that gained international acclaim over the past year. These films received recognition at international festivals and award selections, captivating audiences worldwide. However, a significant portion of this talent goes unutilized as these filmmakers often struggle to secure funding from studios and production houses due to lacking connections in the industry.
She stated, “My professional path has given me numerous chances and opportunities that I wish to utilize with Veloche Productions by assisting others in showcasing their skills and tales, particularly on-screen. It just so happens that we’re here in Cannes, where my initial acting role in a film will be shown. Could there be a more appropriate setting for this debut, for introducing the production company and funding, than Cannes?
Over the course of my career in Indian cinema, I’ve encountered numerous promising scripts and gifted directors who unfortunately haven’t had the opportunity to realize their creative dreams due to a lack of industry connections or studio funding. With Debanjali, who is brimming with talent, determination, and a desire to share her success, we decided to combine our resources and skills to establish Veloche Productions. We’ve given the go-ahead for our inaugural project, and we can hardly wait to receive applications for the next project when they become available in July.
