New Pokemon game is free on Mobile but $10 on Switch 2

The Pokemon Company unveils Pokemon Friends, a game priced differently based on the platform it’s played on.

Users with iOS and Android devices can obtain the game at no cost, whereas those using Nintendo Switch need to purchase it for $9.99 via the eShop.

Although there’s a price disparity, both editions deliver an identical primary interaction, featuring access to a “Puzzle On! Bundle” DLC priced at $26. This expansion encompasses the initial two DLC packs, offering fresh puzzles, collectible plush items, and additional features. If acquired individually, these DLC packs would set you back $15 each.

Same content, different cost

In contrast to the Switch edition, it doesn’t come with any extra content even though it carries a premium price initially. However, mobile users have the option to obtain the same features via in-app purchases, which also encompasses the same additional content (DLC).

In a mobile-compatible twist, Pokemon Friends invites players to solve puzzles and subsequently craft the soft toy versions of their beloved Pokemons from the yarn they’ve unraveled. This game is an integral part of The Pokemon Company’s strategy to expand into mobile and multiplatform adventures.

There’s yet to be an official clarification regarding why the pricing for this platform is divided as it is. Yet, we see comparable pricing strategies employed in other Pokemon side projects, such as Cafe ReMix, where it was given away for free on mobile devices but cost money when launched on Switch.
