New PoE League launches this Friday. 5 things you need to know about Mercenary system

For Path of Exile enthusiasts, next Friday is shaping up to feel like a celebration, marking the long-awaited launch of a fresh league, after nearly a year’s wait. In order to ensure that players are well-equipped, GGG has shared responses to the most commonly asked questions by fans.

Secrets of the Atlas – FAQ

Among the exciting aspects eagerly awaited in “Secrets of the Atlas” is the inclusion of Mercenaries, which naturally leads to a lot of curiosity among players. Initially, the developers detailed how these Mercenaries utilize their equipment.

Each Mercenary possesses unique characteristics that define which equipment they’re capable of wielding, as clearly demonstrated by the examples given by the game creators.

For instance, a Strength-focused Mercenary can use equipment that only requires Strength, or equipment that requires both Strength and either Dexterity or Intelligence. Similarly, a Mercenary specializing in Dexterity and/or Intelligence can utilize gear that requires only Dexterity, only Intelligence, or both Dexterity and Intelligence.

In addition, mercenaries need to possess at least 70% of the necessary level for an item in order to wield it, and they often show a strong preference for particular types of weapons.

  1. The “Quantity” modifier on maps affects the chance of a famous Mercenary appearing.
  2. We can use “Link” type skills on them. However, they themselves cannot use items with “Trigger” type abilities.
  3. There is no option to change the name of the Mercenary or exchange them with other players.
  4. Mercenaries are assigned to the account, not to the character.
  5. If the player is more than 20 levels lower than the Mercenary, they won’t want to join us.

As a dedicated fan, I can share that it was revealed in the update that the treasure accumulated after the battle against Catarina is no longer accessible, and engaging with Syndicate members now brings the game to a halt. Additionally, although Kingsmarch is set for expansion right from the start, it’s important to remember that hiring and compensating workers remains a crucial part of my management responsibilities.

New skills

One unique aspect in the upcoming game “Secrets of the Atlas” is that some skills will bear the label “of Trarthus,” which can exclusively be acquired from Mercenaries. As of now, the creators have unveiled not just two, but four such skills: Wave of Conviction of Trarthus and Heavy Strike of Trarthus, with the latter two being recently disclosed.

Moreover, mercenaries will provide items featuring an exclusive modifier known as “notorious.” Here are three examples of potential benefits:

1. The target’s health decreases over time when hit by the weapon.
2. Increased chance to critically strike enemies.
3. Enemies have a higher chance to flee upon being hit by the item.

Secrets of the Atlas league will start on Friday at 1:00 pm PT.
