New PlayStation 6 leaks reveal potential portable console

A recent leak sheds light on additional information regarding the upcoming PlayStation 6, as well as hinting at a possible handheld variant of this next-generation gaming device.

In November 2020, the PlayStation 5 was released, and it quickly gained massive appeal among fans who had previously enjoyed the PS4.

In 2024, Sony upgraded the PlayStation 5 to the PS5 Pro, boosting its capabilities and making it sleeker with a reduced size. However, this has sparked curiosity among fans about when the next iteration of the console might be unveiled.

On Tuesday, April 15th, a fresh disclosure unveiled additional information regarding the PlayStation 6 and a possible mobile iteration of this gaming system.

New PS6 leak reveals possible portable console

According to posts by well-known leaker ShiinaBR, the next generation of PlayStation consoles – PlayStation 6 – is rumored to offer both a traditional console model as well as a portable version.

It appears that the PlayStation 6 (PS6) is expected to debut sometime between late 2027 and early 2028. Alongside this main console, there will also be a portable version available. Notably, the portable version is anticipated to come out after the main one and offer less computing power than the standard PS6.

The exact source of power for the rumored PS6 handheld isn’t clear yet, but if it’s not as potent as the PS5, we can reasonably expect its performance to be roughly equivalent to that of the Steam Deck.

It’s been hinted that the upcoming PlayStation 6 generation might feature both a standard console and a portable version. If the latest leaks from KeplerL2 are to be believed, the release could happen sometime between late 2027 and 2028. The portable PS6 is expected to have less computing power than the current PS5, and it’s speculated that it may come out after the standard console.

In 2023, Sony’s PlayStation introduced the portable device called Portal. Initially, it was designed for remote gameplay using a PS5 console. However, a software update a year later enabled users to play games directly from the cloud right on the Portal itself.

Ever since, there’s been a lot of anticipation among fans as they wait for Sony to unveil a new portable gaming device. Some leaks even hint at the possibility of a PSP successor being developed within the company.

It remains to be seen what our company plans for portable gaming devices, given the increasing popularity of gadgets such as the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and rumored Nintendo Switch 2. However, it’s clear that many gamers are eagerly anticipating a new, top-tier Sony handheld.
