New Phasmophobia Update Improves The Way You Document Hauntings

In its newest release, titled Chronicle, Phasmophobia introduces a significant change in how players collect and save evidence of ghostly activities. For the very first time within this chilling game, players can now record both video and audio evidence to better document their paranormal encounters. Continue reading for more details about this update and all its additional features.

The recent update incorporates modifications concerning image proof, along with introducing two fresh kinds of evidence to gather – videos and audio clips. The newly developed device, named Sound Recorder, will be used for capturing the audio recordings.

Or

This update brings alterations to photo proofs, plus the introduction of two novel forms of evidence: videos and sound recordings, which can now be captured using a new gadget, the Sound Recorder.

Previously, during an investigation, players were allowed to take a maximum of ten pictures. However, moving forward, they will be able to record five photos, five videos, and three audio clips. Certain types of photo evidence that seemed questionable, like switched light switches or manipulated objects, which some might attribute to ghost activity, are now exclusive to video evidence. This means you’ll need to capture such instances as they occur in real time.

In addition to traditional photos, there are novel ways to capture images that serve as proof. These images can potentially show ghosts in three distinct forms: D.O.T.S, shadows, and physical manifestations. Furthermore, you can photograph Electromagnetic Field (EMF) readings as evidence. From now on, each type of evidence amassed during an investigation will earn a financial reward, so players who dare to face the unknown and gather more proof will be generously compensated in this updated version.

For those opting to play the game entirely from within a vehicle (like a truck), there have been improvements to the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system. This upgrade enables players to gather video proof remotely by using the CCTV. In the vehicle, players can simultaneously monitor up to five video feeds, including head cams and regular cameras, along with CCTV footage.

In the updated system, the 3-star evidence rating has been swapped out for two categories: unique and duplicate. To earn a flawless investigation in this game, players should ensure they collect only one-of-a-kind pieces of evidence, which will be recorded in their Journal as ‘unique’.

The main focus of the Chronicle update lies in the alterations made to the media system, but this latest release also includes numerous bug fixes, enhancements for user convenience, and additional modifications. For a detailed look at these changes, you can refer to the comprehensive list provided below.

Chronicle – Phasmophobia v0.13

MEDIA

The essential part of the CHRONICLE update for Phasmophobia revolves around a significant overhaul in the method we collect and compensate Media. We’ve introduced a new tool, added two fresh types of media – videos and sound recordings, along with updated difficulties and advancement mechanisms.

PHOTOS

In addition to the above, the Photos system has seen adjustments.

  • Maximum Photos a player can take in an investigation has been reduced from ten to five.
  • New types of Photos can be gathered:
  • EMF reading on an EMF reader
  • Three Ghost Forms – Physical, D.O.T.S and Shadow
  • The Photo types below have been moved to Video media and will no longer be able to be photographed.
  • Light switches
  • Door movements
  • Thrown objects
  • Ghost interactions with various objects

VIDEOS

As a game enthusiast diving into the world of CHRONICLE for the first time, I’ve stumbled upon an exciting new feature – Video Recording! Equipped with a handy in-game camera, I can seize precious moments during my investigations and relive them later. What a fantastic way to document my journey through this captivating game world!

  • A total of five videos can be captured in a single investigation
  • To capture video footage, players will need to hold down the “USE’’ button while aiming the camera at the spot they wish to record. A new icon will display on the video camera, encouraging the player to record.

Below is a selection of recordable media during an investigation:

  • Hunting Ghost
  • Ghost triggering Crucifix
  • Ghost Orbs
  • Thrown objects
  • Doors being moved
  • Ghosts interacting with objects (rocking chairs, gas canisters etc)
  • A light source shattering
  • Ghost blowing out a candle or fire
  • More to discover!

SOUNDS

In a fresh development, the second novel media form is associated with the latest gadget in Phasmophobia – the Sound Recorder. With this new device at their disposal, players can now record up to three distinct Sounds during each mission. These captured sounds can later be replayed from the Sounds tab on the Journal page.

Starting at Level 4, you’ll have access to the Sound Recorder itself. Further enhancements, such as Tier 2 and Tier 3 versions, will become accessible at higher levels in due course.

The Sound Recorder can capture the below Sounds during an investigation:

  • Paranormal Sounds
  • A hunting Ghost
  • Singing Ghost events
  • Spirit Box responses
  • More to discover!

CCTV

We have overhauled the CCTV system found within the truck during an investigation.

  • The CCTV interface has been split in to three sections – CCTV Cameras, Video Cameras and Head Cameras.
  • Players can view up to five different live camera feeds at once.
  • While using the CCTV interface, players can record video media from the safety of the truck.

UNIQUE MEDIA

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that a significant aspect of this update focuses on enhancing the ghost-hunting adventure by minimizing the irritating hurdles faced during media capture. This way, our pursuit of the paranormal feels more engaging and enjoyable!

  • Replaced the three-star rating system with the new Unique/Duplicate system.
  • During a contract, the first time a piece of media is captured, it is marked Unique.
  • If the same piece of media is captured, it will receive a Duplicate mark and will reward less money and experience.
  • To achieve a Perfect Investigation, alongside usual requirements, players must fill their Journal with Unique Media.
  • Up to three pieces of media can now be deleted during an investigation, up from two previously.

REWARDS & PROGRESSION

CHRONICLE introduces changes to the overall Rewards and Progression system.

Rewards

  • Using higher tiers of the Photo Camera, Video Camera and Sound Recorder will reward players with an additional monetary bonus, per piece of Media.
    • $1 for Tier 2
    • $2 for Tier 3
  • All Media rewards are now included in the reward multiplier.

Progression

  • Equipment and their corresponding Tiers are now unlocked earlier.
  • Tier upgrades are now unlocked in groups of two or three, giving players the choice of which upgrade path to follow first.
    • Example: Crucifix Tier 3 and Incense Tier 3 are both available to unlock at Level 80, instead of 90 and 85 respectively

These alterations enable players to opt for various paths to enhance their gear, rather than being compelled to follow a single, progressive upgrade route.

CHALLENGES & OPTIONAL OBJECTIVES

A key aspect of the CHRONICLE update involves revisiting the available optional goals and in-game tasks. Although the recurring challenges will stay consistent, we now possess the flexibility to incorporate distinct challenges at various points during the year. Some potential examples might be:

1. Seasonal events tied to specific holidays or occasions.
2. Limited-time objectives related to new content releases.
3. Collaborative tasks that require teamwork with other players.
4. Time-based challenges, such as daily or weekly quests.

  • Update launch challenges (such as On Record, live as of 24th June*)
  • *progress from Lights Out! will be wiped and replaced with On Record.
  • Increased XP events
  • Equipment-focused challenges (Sound Recorder, Video Camera etc)

The modifications to our challenge system give us the ability to bypass or adjust challenges should a problem arise within any particular week.

We’ve made numerous modifications with the possibility of having specific goals. This includes adding fresh hurdles and altering previous ones. In a forthcoming upgrade, we plan to make further adjustments and enhancements to these optional goals.
