As a seasoned Phasmophobia gamer with years of ghost-hunting under my belt, I can’t help but feel my heart racing with anticipation at the latest Development Update 18! The journal and media overhaul is like a breath of fresh air, giving us the chance to capture those spine-tingling moments not just in still images, but also in video and sound. The introduction of the Sound Recorder item is particularly intriguing; I can already imagine the goosebumps that will rush down my spine as I listen back to an eerie whisper or the creaking of a door on its own accord.

The change from quality tiers to “Unique” and “duplicate” captures adds a new layer of excitement, as the thrill of capturing something truly special is always heightened when it’s one-of-a-kind. And let’s not forget the reward that comes with it – more money and XP!

The developers’ promise of converting old photos into things we can record on video has me eager to revisit some of my favorite locations, ready to uncover new secrets and evidence. The Bleasdale Farmhouse overhaul is icing on the cake, with a “slightly new” layout, new areas, and ghost rooms like a garden that will surely provide ample opportunities for capturing those elusive ghost sightings.

I’m beyond grateful to the Phasmophobia team for their continued support throughout 2024 and can hardly wait to see what they have in store next. And who knows, maybe one of these days I’ll finally capture enough evidence to convince even the most skeptical of my ghost-hunting prowess!

Oh, and as a little joke, I can’t help but wonder if this update will finally give me the proof I need to prove that my cat is actually a ghost in disguise… only time will tell!

Phasmophobia has unveiled its Development Update 18, right as we welcome the New Year. In this update, they’re revealing significant changes to the journal and media system, introducing fresh items, updates to maps, and much more. The Photos section in the Journals will be swapped for a new Media tab, offering an enhanced experience where players can now not only capture photos but also videos and sounds using the innovative Sound Recorder item.

In the future, there won’t be different quality levels for photos, which means that obtaining a flawless game might involve a slight change in process. Instead of having quality tiers, the initial capture of any media will now be marked as “Unique!”. Unique captures come with a substantial reward of money and XP, whereas duplicate images bring a smaller amount.

Developers clarify that for the following two pages, they will employ video cameras to document any interesting occurrences – such as a door closing by itself, a ghostly figure in a DOTS projector, or a moving Ouija board planchette. Essentially, they’re saying that several previously puzzling photographs have now been transformed into visual recordings!

Beyond the recent enhancements, Bleasdale Farmhouse is set for some aesthetic and structural modifications too. The entire premise will undergo a significant transformation, showcasing a slightly revamped design, incorporating fresh sections like a garden, in addition to new ghost rooms.

We appreciate your constant backing during the entire year of 2024, as we delved into the possibilities within Phasmophobia and continually refined the overall gameplay.” – The Developers mentioned.
