Warner Bros. has shared a fresh sneak peek of Minecraft: The Movie, but surprisingly, it lacks scenes of construction, crafting, or mining. Instead, there appears to be a romantic atmosphere as Jennifer Coolidge’s character from White Lotus is seen on a dinner date with an unusual companion – a computer-generated Villager character.
A sneak peek at the upcoming Minecraft film titled “Be Mine” was released on YouTube (check it out below). The trailer begins with an exaggerated dinner scene, meant to be humorous, where Coolidge’s character is in the spotlight. She says, “You know, I recently divorced my husband, Clemente, and the main reason was because he didn’t have any personality… compared to you.” The camera then highlights the Villager character, who wiggles his unibrow in enthusiasm.
In this 30-second video, there are still more jokes to come. Towards the end, a waitress shows up and asks if the couple has finished. This prompts Coolidge’s character to say, “I believe he’s Swedish.” On top of being funny, it also references the fact that Minecraft was developed by Swedish creator Markus “Notch” Persson and Mojang Studios are based in Sweden.
In February, a trailer was released giving us our first glimpse of the villain for a Minecraft Movie – a character named Malgosha, who is a Piglin from the Nether. Additionally, we caught a sneak peek of Coolidge’s character in that same video. Her on-screen actions suggest a unique introduction for the characters, as she’s depicted hitting a Villager with a car, which seems to set up an unexpected and humorous meet-cute for the pair.
Joining Coolidge in the cast of the upcoming Minecraft Movie are Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Sebastian Hansen, and Jack Black. Interestingly, Jack Black initially wasn’t slated to play Steve. Moreover, Jack Black recently disclosed that his favorite game isn’t Minecraft or a Super Mario Bros. game.
A Minecraft Movie will hit theaters on April 4.
