During the Nintendo Direct presentation today, one of the standout games was a title that was initially teased at E3 2017: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. After eight years of turbulent production, the fourth installment in the Metroid Prime series is inching ever closer to hitting the shelves. The latest trailer offered additional insights into the game and what players can anticipate, such as the game’s setting and some intriguing psychic abilities. Regrettably, a release date for this much-awaited game has yet to be announced.
More details revealed about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, including psychic powers
In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Samus Aran, the series’ bounty hunter heroine, is mysteriously whisked away to a hitherto uncharted tropical planet named Viewros. This alien world teems with hostile extraterrestrial life forms, but Samus is always prepared for combat. To find a way back home, she must study various objects and artifacts in her environment, decipher puzzles, and of course, engage in some alien-blasting action.
The trailer unveils that Samus gains a variety of psychic talents, ranging from moving objects without touching them to strategically guiding her beam weapon to hit multiple foes simultaneously. It seems that a central enigma in the game revolves around why Samus possesses these abilities and what led her to this world. In the clip, she engages in dialogue with another extraterrestrial being, possibly former inhabitants of Viewros, who suggests that she is the chosen one.
The projected release date for Metroid Prime 4 remains within the year 2025, and we might get more information about it next week during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation. This is one of the significant Nintendo games anticipated this year, aside from a possible new Mario Kart hinted at during the Switch 2 unveiling. Given its status as a major title, Metroid Prime 4 could potentially be a cross-generational game, playable on the current Switch but also launching with the upcoming Switch 2. It’s conceivable that this game could debut the rumored Joy-Con mouse feature. This new functionality, combined with enhanced graphics, might entice players to upgrade to the Switch 2 version.
After eight long years, it’s thrilling to stand at the brink of a fresh, innovative Metroid Prime game – one that feels brand new! I hope the rocky development phase won’t compromise its quality in any way. Fortunately, over the past few years, things seem to have settled down nicely. Now, we eagerly await next week’s exciting unveiling!
