New Lord Of The Rings Games Being Prototyped Right Now

As a lifelong fan of Middle-earth and its enchanting tales, I can hardly contain my excitement at the news that multiple new Lord of the Rings games are in development! Having grown up with these stories, I’ve always yearned for more immersive experiences within this magical world.


It has been announced by the company, Embracer Group, which holds the rights to Middle-earth Enterprises, that several fresh Lord of the Rings games are currently being experimented and designed in their initial phases. During a recent financial update from Embracer, they mentioned they are actively working on testing and creating prototypes for numerous new game ideas.

Embracer stated that their endeavors involve delving deeply into various forms of immersive and genuine gaming experiences set within the realm of Middle-earth.

The publisher explained they’d be adopting a straightforward yet strategic method, focusing on delivering genuine narratives in the creation of their games.

According to Embracer, it’s crucial to actively involve the community right from the start in order to develop experiences that deeply connect. They have been meticulously collaborating with their internal creative teams, renowned creators, and enthusiastic fanbase to establish a solid foundation and long-term strategic planning for [The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit].

Previously, Lee Guinchard, the head of The Lord of the Rings project at Embracer Group, expressed his aspirations for a renewed era of Lord of the Rings video games.

As a devoted fan myself, I’m thrilled to share that I’m currently part of Embracer Group’s team, collaborating with Amazon Games on an exciting new MMO set within the captivating Middle-earth universe. Apart from this, there’s another intriguing title in the Lord of the Rings series, named Tales of the Shire, which is slated for release later this year. As Guinchard hinted in the interview we previously discussed, there are several other unannounced Lord of the Rings games also under development, promising even more adventures in Middle-earth!

Over the years, I’ve been captivated by a variety of remarkable video games based on J.R. Tolkien’s epic saga, The Lord of the Rings. Among these, a handful of early movie tie-ins garnered widespread acclaim, while the more contemporary Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War offered immersive gaming experiences that I thoroughly enjoyed. On the lighter side, the Lego Lord of the Rings and Lego The Hobbit titles remain fondly remembered by many fans like myself. A less favorably recalled Lord of the Rings video game was The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, launched in 2023 to dismal critical reception. After its debut, developer Daedalic decided to shelve the subsequent Lord of the Rings game they were developing and announced their withdrawal from creating games altogether.

Besides producing video games, Embracer Group is collaborating with Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema on several upcoming movies, one of which is “The Hunt for Gollum.” Notably, Andy Serkis, who portrayed the character Gollum in Peter Jackson’s original Lord of the Rings trilogy, will be directing this film.
