I’m really looking forward to several upcoming book adaptations, but the way Lionsgate is revealing cast members for “Sunrise on the Reaping” is unlike anything I’ve seen before, reminiscent of the excitement surrounding the casting for “The Hunger Games.” For the past two months, they’ve been gradually unveiling who will be playing whom in the movie through a series of social media posts, and it’s been quite intriguing. However, I wonder how the new actor portraying Haymitch, Joseph Zada, is discovering who his co-stars are?

Joseph Zada Talks About How He’s Learning About The Sunrise On The Reaping Casting

As it transpires, he holds a similar viewpoint as ours. During my conversation with the Australian actor and the cast of the We Were Liars TV series, this is what he shared about his take on the casting announcement.

I completely agree with you. I’ve never received confirmation before when they were arriving, but now I’m learning from Instagram posts. It’s like I can hardly contain my excitement when I see my phone light up! I wake up and think, “Wow, this is fantastic!

Isn’t it fascinating to think about discovering that a few of your workmates are going to portray characters like Ralph Fiennes (the actor playing President Snow), Kieran Culkin (depicting Caesar Flickerman), and Jesse Plemons (set for Plutarch Heavensbee) via Instagram? I was taken aback when I found out that Joseph Zada is as excited as we are, eagerly waiting for the casting reveals. When I inquired if he’s met any of his co-stars yet, this is what he told me:

I’ll encounter them on the filming location, as this seems to be the most effective approach. I prefer to maintain my character while conversing with them, so that it doesn’t feel intimidating.

When addressing your query, Joseph Zada appeared to be a seasoned professional, radiating self-assurance regarding the large-scale project he was involved in. I recently got to speak briefly with the young actor about his upcoming portrayal of Haymitch, thanks to his latest role in “We Were Liars.” This series, available exclusively for Amazon Prime subscribers starting next week on their 2025 TV lineup, is an adaptation of another well-known Young Adult novel that has sold millions of copies since its release in 2014.

In contrast to Haymitch from “The Hunger Games,” Zada’s role as Johnny in “We Were Liars” is quite distinct. Unlike Haymitch, who hails from a modest background in District 12, Johnny belongs to the wealthy Sinclair family, who possess their own private island near Martha’s Vineyard.

In the course of this series, Johnny grapples with his privileged status while handling the consequences of an action he took. Simultaneously, the central plot revolves around his cousin Cadence, who endeavors to unravel the truth following a severe head injury she sustained in a puzzling event. (By the way, Zada gives a fantastic performance in it!)
