New Ghostbusters Movie Gets Major Update After Year of Silence

Good news for fans of Ghostbusters! Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation have shared a new update on the animated movie, which was first revealed over a year ago.

What is the latest Ghostbusters movie update?

Netflix’s upcoming animated Ghostbusters movie has a new screenwriter: Sam Jarvis, known for their work on Dollface. Sources at The InSneider report that Jarvis is now working on the script, following earlier drafts contributed by writers like Yoni Brenner (Rio 2) and Christy Hall (I Am Not Okay with This). Paul Kewley, who worked on Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, is also joining the project as a creative producer.

I’m really excited about this new Ghostbusters movie! It’s going to be directed by Kris Pearn, who I loved working on ‘The Willoughbys’ with Netflix. He’s also done great work on ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ and ‘Shaun the Sheep Movie’, so I have high hopes. Sony isn’t sharing much about the story or characters just yet, but it’s definitely going to be a new addition to the Ghostbusters world, building on what Jason Reitman started with the recent films.

In addition to the new movie, Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are creating an animated Ghostbusters series that’s been in the works since 2022. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan are executive producers through their production company, Ghost Corps, Inc. This will be the franchise’s third animated television show, following The Real Ghostbusters from the late 1980s and Extreme Ghostbusters from 1997.

Kenan recently shared that the upcoming Netflix show could connect with the existing Ghostbusters universe through shared storylines. He explained that he’s working closely with Jason to develop these connections and is enthusiastic about how the new stories will build on what fans already enjoy, promising a thrilling experience for viewers.
