After more than 16 years, a new Friday the 13th movie is finally in the works, confirmed by the recently created Jason Universe initiative. While legal issues prevent the film from using the official title, it will be the first new Jason Voorhees movie in over a decade.

While discussing his remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night, Nelson revealed that a new film in the Jason universe is in development. He stated he’s been directly informed about the project and confirmed it’s moving forward. Nelson also mentioned he’s been contacted about the new film and has shared his ideas with the team, but now it’s up to them to decide how to proceed. (Source: Slash Film)

This news confirms what Horror Inc. executive Robbie Barsamian previously shared with Bloody Disgusting: a new movie sequel and game are their main focus right now.

Nelson’s possible involvement hints that the upcoming Friday the 13th film might signal a fresh start for the series. He’s known for bringing a new perspective to well-known franchises, believing that successful original content comes from taking creative risks. As he puts it, it’s about ‘doing something’ different.

It’s unknown if this new project will continue the story from his short film, Sweet Revenge, but it’s a significant component of the broader Jason Universe plan.
