Irene Bassett, global brand director at Paramount Home Entertainment, shares that what attracted us to Fantastic Pavilion mirrors the essence of Paramount Scares. For us, horror isn’t merely a genre; it’s a universal language with the ability to foster connections. This place unites daring creators, enthusiastic fans, and a forward-thinking vision for the direction of genre storytelling. That’s where Paramount Scares thrives each day, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.
Alex Noyer, who acts as both Ambassador and Executive Producer for the Fantastic Pavilion, highlighted the long-term plan guiding the show’s creation. “Ever since its beginning, developing a fresh content strategy for the pavilion has been a passion of mine,” he explained. “However, it needed time to grow and generate buzz. This year, we have an abundance of innovation on display, and I am delighted to introduce ‘The Séance.’ I’ve had the pleasure of working with Blair on my upcoming film, ‘Love is the Monster,’ and I’ve been impressed by her storytelling abilities and how she’s expanded her influence. Additionally, I admire Gigi and look forward to joining forces with her for this project.
Bathory, who boasts a devoted fanbase via social media and the widely acclaimed ‘Something Scary’ podcast, will take on dual roles as co-host and creative director. “I’m excited to embark on this venture with several long-time partners and friends,” she expressed. “Being in charge of a pioneering project that not only breaks new ground but also embodies the spirit and evolution of horror films is a privilege. I can hardly wait to unveil the blood-soaked red carpet for the horror community and establish our dominance at one of the most illustrious events globally.
Guerrero, freshly debuting at Cannes with her film “Talking to Strangers” in the Fantastic Galas, shared her excitement. She stated, “‘The Séance’ is a type of production that inspires aspiring filmmakers to aim high and visualize themselves at Cannes someday, particularly those working in the genre. I’m overjoyed that spectators will join me on this exhilarating adventure as I explore Cannes for the first time myself! And to co-host it with my horror companion Blair? Let me tell you, there will be authentic chaos, and yes, it will all be documented.
The show is anticipated to captivate viewers in the U.S. and Latin America, thanks to collaborations with partners like Morbido and Fangoria, who are helping increase its exposure. Fangoria, a long-time advocate for horror as a daring, global art form, considers Cannes an ideal platform to showcase its impact. “Cannes is the perfect venue to underscore Fangoria’s commitment to horror as a bold, global art form,” said Abhi Goel, Co-Owner of Fangoria. “We’re excited about our collaboration with You Know Films and the Fantastic Pavilion on ‘The Séance,’ offering fans an exclusive glimpse into a festival that appreciates artistic brilliance across all genres. Cannes honors the boundary-pushing spirit of horror worldwide, and we’re proud to contribute to its amplification on such a prestigious stage.
2023 saw the unveiling of The Fantastic Pavilion, a hub that swiftly gained significance within the realm of genre films at Cannes. As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve always looked forward to our annual gathering at this extraordinary space, where we showcase daring concepts and exhilarating journeys for all attendees. However, this year marks a unique chapter, as Fantastic Pavilion executive director Pablo Guisa Koestinger shared: “We’re not just bringing experiences to the Pavilion this time; we’re taking the magic of The Fantastic Pavilion directly to those who can’t be physically present.” This groundbreaking initiative, titled ‘The Séance,’ promises an immersive cinematic experience that transcends geographical boundaries.
Each day during the Marché du Film, you’ll find exclusive content from “The Séance,” giving you an up-close view of the horror genre’s influence along the Croisette.
