As a seasoned Dead by Daylight player with countless hours under my belt, I can confidently say that the Doomed Course chapter has truly outdone itself with the introduction of Taurie Cain and her unique perk, Shoulder the Burden. This long-awaited feature, allowing for hook state trades among survivors, is a game-changer that brings a fresh perspective to the game’s strategy.

In the Dead by Daylight game, the latest chapter on the PTB servers, called the Doomed Course, has introduced an exciting new character – The Houndmaster as the killer and Taurie Cain as a survivor in the mist. One of Taurie’s abilities, Shoulder the Burden, provides players with the long-awaited option to swap hook states among survivors, effectively trading their positions.

For years, there’s been discussion about moving one of your hooks from Survivor to another show. Now, I’m thrilled that this concept has become a tangible reality! I initially thought it might be considered too daring.

By assuming the Hooked role, players who are not currently in the death hook can rescue another survivor once per trial, effectively swapping their current state with the rescued one. To ensure a balanced exchange, the rescuer will emit a loud scream and receive the Exhausted status effect for a brief period.

This special advantage could greatly influence the game dynamics, potentially redefining strategies for matches where it’s employed. It empowers survivors by permitting them to choose which players enter hook states, effectively deterring the practice known as tunneling. Moreover, it appears that this feature might foster intriguing synergies; teaming it up with other escape-focused perks could secure the survivor’s safety post-rescue, while incorporating chase-enhancing abilities guarantees survival even after a distress signal is emitted.

The responsibility for carrying the burden, along with the entire “Doomed Course” chapter, is now accessible within the Public Test Build (PTB) of Dead by Daylight. However, be aware that the perk could still undergo modifications before it’s officially integrated into the game, making it intriguing to observe how this novel mechanic will unfold during trials!

Doomed Course is set to release on 28 November, 2024, featuring Taurie Cain and The Houndmaster.
