The new ‘Faces of Death’ horror movie has already run into trouble. The trailer was so shocking it was removed from YouTube, and now theaters won’t even display the movie’s posters.
Faces of Death is a 2026 reimagining of the controversial 1978 film. The original movie was banned in over 40 countries before being acquired by Shutter.
The movie’s initial trailer, which showed more explicit content, was briefly removed from YouTube due to its violent imagery. It was later re-released as a red-band trailer, indicating its mature content.
The MPA has told theaters they can’t display the movie’s promotional posters because the images are too intense.
‘Faces of Death’ posters banned from cinemas
DiscussingFilm reports that the movie’s initial posters were deemed too graphic for theaters and weren’t approved.
The MPA believes the images are too upsetting to be shown where children might see them.

Not much is known about the movie’s story yet, but the cast includes Charli XCX, Dacre Montgomery, Aaron Holliday, and Jermaine Fowler.
The story follows a woman who monitors content on a video-sharing site similar to YouTube. She’s responsible for removing disturbing and violent videos while also dealing with her own past trauma. She discovers a group that is disturbingly recreating the murders from the original movie.
Given the story’s focus on the digital world and the spread of false information online, the central question becomes: are the killings actually happening, or are they fabricated?
The film Faces of Death has been acquired by Independent Film Company and Shudder. Even though the movie’s posters were prohibited, it will still be released in cinemas on April 10th.
