The latest update to the Avengers: Doomsday game has people wondering if a major character from the Avengers might soon battle someone from the X-Men. While specifics are still scarce, rumors suggest a showdown between a member of the New Avengers team and an X-Men character could be in the works.
Yelena vs. Mystique could happen in Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed rumors of a fight between Yelena Belova and Mystique in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. The speculation started on X (formerly Twitter) when a user wondered if the two characters would face off, but there’s no official evidence to support this claim.
In Avengers: Doomsday, Florence Pugh plays Yelena Belova, a skilled assassin trained in the Red Room who is now part of the New Avengers. Rebecca Romijn joins the cast as Mystique, a mutant with the ability to change her appearance. The movie unites heroes from several teams – including the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and X-Men – to battle the villain Doctor Doom.
The Avengers: Doomsday film features the X-Men team, with Patrick Stewart playing Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. They join forces with other superhero teams in this crossover event.
Rebecca Romijn has confirmed she’s reprising her role, saying it ‘feels great’ to be back on set. She’s been busy filming, juggling work on both Star Trek and a separate project, and confirmed her involvement as Mystique. However, she didn’t mention anything about sharing scenes with Yelena.
The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, and the screenplay is written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. Filming is scheduled from April to September 2025. It’s a sequel to Avengers: Endgame and will be part of the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel plans to release two big Avengers movies in theaters: Avengers: Doomsday will come out on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027.
