As a gamer, I can hardly wait for the moment when I feel like Commander Shepard from Mass Effect with the new AirPods Pro 3. These bad boys come equipped with a mind-blowing feature called Live Translation. Apple claims that by donning these headphones, you’ll be able to seamlessly understand languages such as French and Spanish, effortlessly translated into English for you. Plus, there’s an awesome feature where you can reply to someone without your headphones, as your iPhone will transcribe your words on screen into the other person’s language. Now, that’s a game-changer!
In the style of Mass Effect’s Translation Technology, auto-translators are crucial for seamless communication among diverse species like humans, Krogans, and Salarians within the RPG universe. Their use is especially vital in places like The Citadel, a hub for various alien societies.

Initially, Apple’s new earbuds, scheduled for release on September 19 at a price of $249, will provide real-time translation in English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. By the close of 2025, Apple plans to expand this list to include Italian, Japanese, Korean, and simplified Chinese. It’s important to note that the AirPods Pro 3 aren’t the only earbuds offering automatic translation; Google Pixel Buds and certain Samsung headphones also offer similar capabilities.
Currently, there isn’t much information available on Mass Effect 5, the upcoming installment in the science fiction series. The most recent news about the project came from BioWare executive producer Michael Gamble, suggesting that lens flare effects will be included in the game.
Additionally, it has been announced that Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Mass Effect television series. It was reported in June that Doug Jung had been appointed as showrunner, following his role as showrunner on the Apple TV+ series ‘Chief of War’. Notably, Jung has also worked as a writer for Netflix’s ‘Mindhunter’ and co-authored the screenplay for ‘Star Trek Beyond’.
