If you’re seeking a less expensive handheld controller for the potential Nintendo Switch 2, consider taking a look at the recently released GameSir X5s. This budget-friendly Bluetooth mobile controller is compatible with the original and possibly upcoming Nintendo Switch models, as well as iOS and Android devices. It can accommodate devices up to 8.38 inches in size and boasts several professional-style features and design aspects that make it a compelling alternative to Nintendo’s Joy-Con 2 Controllers.
The X5s isn’t an officially endorsed controller by Nintendo at the moment. As for alternatives that are officially recognized, they don’t exist yet. In terms of options, they’re quite limited. I haven’t had a chance to try the X5s myself, but I have used the GameSir G8 Plus on Switch 2, and I was quite pleased with its design and construction. The G8 Plus sells for $80, but it’s currently on sale at Walmart for $70. It boasts a few extra features. Considering the X5s is priced at $50, it seems like a reasonably good deal.
The G8 Plus model includes all the characteristics present in the X5s, plus it offers two customizable rear buttons, interchangeable faceplates, and a set of five exchangeable top grips. Additionally, it boasts a more substantial build to accommodate devices up to 8.46 inches in size.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to share some exciting news! It’s not just GameSir making Switch controllers with interchangeable face buttons. The 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad has joined the party, too, featuring magnetic face buttons that can be swapped out for a cool reason. Unlike GameSir’s controllers, the Pro 3 comes with an extra set of unlabeled Super Famicom-themed buttons. This bad boy is seriously among the top-tier Nintendo Switch (and Switch 2, if you’re lucky enough to have it) controllers out there! And
