In Season 2 of “One Piece”, the story arcs covering Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island are being adapted. When this Netflix-exclusive show returns (confirmed for 2026), there are many exciting moments to anticipate. Among them, one of the most significant is the debut of Tony Tony Chopper, a reindeer who consumed the Human-Human Devil Fruit and will join the Straw Hat Pirates as their doctor. Although we caught a glimpse of Chopper’s unique human-reindeer form last September, the complete reveal has just been made. Furthermore, it has been disclosed that an actor from “Guardians of the Galaxy” has been selected to portray this character.
Mikaela Hoover, known for her roles as Nova Prime’s aide in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and Floor the Rabbit in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, has been announced to provide the voice for Chopper in the live-action version of “One Piece”. Additionally, she will also perform facial capture for this character. This exciting news comes directly from Netflix’s TUDUM event and the video below featuring the sixth member of the Straw Hat Pirates.
Isn’t he simply charming, much like Brian Palencia’s portrayal in the anime’s English version. In the live-action adaptation, Chopper can be seen conversing with Iñaki Godoy’s Luffy, who remains off-screen, and to the TUDUM audience. Mikaela Hoover’s interpretation of the character is quite appealing to me. Additionally, it was a thoughtful detail to depict Chopper’s common behavior of hiding awkwardly when praised.
An interesting point for those new to the story is that Chopper, beyond being a reindeer, can transform into a regular deer or fully human, retaining some reindeer characteristics like fur around his neck and a reindeer nose. When he transforms into a human, he becomes larger and stronger, but if the live-action version of “One Piece” follows the anime, we’ll still hear Mikaela Hoover’s voice coming from him. I can’t wait to see more of these forms and additional transformations when Chopper consumes his famous Rumble Balls.
In conclusion, Chopper will play a significant role in wrapping up One Piece Season 2, appearing during the Drum Island storyline and introducing characters like Katey Sagal’s Dr. Kureha, Mark Harelik’s Dr. Hiruluk, and Rob Colletti’s Wapol, among others. However, as previously mentioned, Chopper will join Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji on their adventures. With Mackenyu confirming One Piece Season 3 in February, and more recently, Joe Manganiello confirming his role as Mr. 0 to Alexandra Ramos, we can expect to hear a lot more of Mikaela Hoover’s voice as Chopper in the future.
In Season 2 of “One Piece”, we’ll meet some new characters like Lera Abova’s Miss All Sunday, David Dastmalchian’s Mr. 3, Callum Kerr’s Smoker, Sendhil Ramamurthy’s Nefertari Cobra, and Charithra Chandran’s Miss Wednesday. Stay tuned for the release date announcement! In the meantime, catch up with Hoover’s performances in the first and third “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies, available on Disney+. You might also recognize her as Cat Grant from the upcoming “Superman” films, scheduled for July 11, 2025.
