The new Netflix series, Scooby-Doo: Origins, will feature Shaggy looking like fans remember from the original cartoons and movies.
I’m so excited – they’re actually making a new live-action Scooby-Doo movie! Production is happening right now in Atlanta, and we’re getting our first glimpses of the cast in character. Just Jared just posted some set photos, and I got a look at Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, rocking that iconic green shirt! He was filming a scene with another actor, possibly outside Shaggy’s house or even the school. It’s starting to feel real!

The upcoming live-action series will feature Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. Though the cast hasn’t been publicly seen filming yet, production is underway with showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg. The first season of Scooby-Doo: Origins will have eight episodes, and filming is expected to continue until September, so we can likely expect more behind-the-scenes photos to appear.
Netflix’s new series, Scooby-Doo: Origins, will reveal the story of how Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy first met and formed Mystery Incorporated. The show begins at summer camp, where the group investigates a mysterious death that seems supernatural. This is where they encounter Scooby-Doo, who may have seen what happened. Frank Welker, who has voiced Scooby-Doo in many animated projects over the years, will reprise his role in the Netflix adaptation.
Paul Walter Hauser has joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix series, Scooby-Doo: Origins, in a currently undisclosed role. While Netflix hasn’t confirmed anything, many believe he’ll be playing Scooby-Doo’s owner, which would make sense given the show is an origin story. The series will explore the beginnings of the friendships between Shaggy, Daphne, Fred, and Velma.
Okay, so I’m really excited about this new Scooby-Doo: Origins project. Greg Berlanti is producing, and honestly, the guy knows how to reboot a classic. He’s had a ton of hits – think You on Netflix, or even building the whole Arrowverse on The CW with all those DC heroes. And let’s not forget Riverdale, which he also produced – he really knows how to take familiar stories and give them a fresh, sometimes darker, edge. So, I’ve got high hopes for this Scooby-Doo origin story!
Although it’s the first live-action series, this new Scooby-Doo show on Netflix joins a long history of Scooby-Doo TV programs. It’s also arriving at a good time for Netflix, as the streaming service looks for new mystery shows to replace recently ended favorites. Considering how well-loved Scooby-Doo is, Scooby-Doo: Origins has the potential to be a big success for many seasons.
As filming progresses, we’ll probably learn more about the plot and other characters from the Scooby-Doo universe that will appear in the show. As of right now, Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for Scooby-Doo: Origins.
