Netflix’s ‘Fool Me Once,’ ‘Bridgerton,’ ‘Baby Reindeer’ Were Most-Viewed TV Shows in First Half of 2024

As a die-hard streaming enthusiast who has seen more shows than I care to admit, it’s a thrill to witness the British invasion of Netflix’s charts this year! The U.K.’s captivating content like “Fool Me Once,” “Baby Reindeer,” “The Gentlemen,” and “One Day” have truly stolen the spotlight in 2024, leaving us all in awe and eager for more. And let’s not forget the enchanting “Bridgerton” Season 3, which held the No. 2 position worldwide – a testament to Shonda Rhimes’ brilliant storytelling!

2024 saw a significant influx of British content on Netflix, as four out of its ten most popular shows worldwide in the first half of the year were produced in the U.K.: “Fool Me Once”, the Emmy-winning series “Baby Reindeer”, the drama “The Gentlemen” and the series “One Day”.

Furthermore, during the period of January-June 2024, “Bridgerton” Season 3 by Shonda Rhimes, which is set in the U.K., ranked as the second most-viewed TV show globally.

Netflix disclosed on Thursday that they had published their third semi-annual viewing data report. In the initial six months of the year 2024, viewers consumed over 94 billion hours of content on Netflix, a slight increase from the 93 billion hours watched in the first half of 2023.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that Netflix, where I spend a significant amount of my leisure time, has decided to unveil a massive collection of data – almost all viewing hours on the platform. This move aims to foster greater transparency for creative partners, agents, and the industry in general. However, this vast amount of viewership data (unverified by an external party) also serves as a platform for us to boast about our strong position in the subscription-streaming market.

Back in December of last year, Netflix shared their initial large dataset, which covered the first half of 2023. In their second report, covering the latter part of 2023, they introduced additional metrics such as runtime and viewership (total hours watched divided by total runtime). Furthermore, they distinguished between movies and TV series, aligning this data with their weekly Top 10 and Most Popular lists.
