Netflix’s 9-Part Crime Thriller Is Its Best New Show To Binge This Weekend

If you’re looking for a new show to binge-watch this weekend, March 27–29, 2026, Netflix’s 9-episode crime thriller is a great choice. The series, based on a popular book, launched on Thursday, March 26th and is already getting rave reviews – it currently has a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, suggesting it will be a big hit.

This dark and intense crime drama is the first television series based on Jo Nesbø’s popular books, and he also oversaw its creation and production. Unlike some other book adaptations, like the Reacher series, this Netflix show doesn’t begin with the first book. Instead, it jumps to the fifth installment, set in Oslo during a heatwave, from the thirteen-book series.

Netflix’s 9-Part Crime Thriller Based On Popular Books Just Arrived

If you’re looking for a new crime thriller to watch on Netflix this weekend, look no further than Detective Hole. Based on the popular book series that began in 1997 with The Bat, the show centers on Harry Hole, a gifted but flawed detective battling addiction as he hunts down serial killers. Tobias Santelmann stars as Harry Hole, and Joel Kinnaman plays his colleague, Tom Waaler, a character who seems nice but is actually corrupt.

Season one of Detective Hole is based on Jo Nesbø’s novel, The Devil’s Star, and follows a serial killer targeting women in Oslo, leaving a chilling mark on each crime scene. Like popular thrillers such as True Detective and Dexter, the series focuses on a detailed and consuming investigation to catch the killer. While Harry Hole is the most capable detective for the job, his personal struggles with alcohol and a tense rivalry with a colleague complicate the case.

I was honestly pretty disappointed with the 2017 movie, The Snowman, even though it was based on one of my favorite books! It’s based on Jo Nesbø’s fantastic novel, but he wasn’t involved in making the film, and it really showed. I’m so excited that Nesbø is now fully in charge with this new 9-part thriller series on Netflix. He’s taking back his story, and I have a feeling this series is going to be the intense, gripping experience the book deserves, and reach a huge audience thanks to Netflix.

Binge All 9 Episodes Of Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole This Weekend

If you’re looking for a new show to watch on Netflix this weekend, check out Detective Hole. Produced by the creators of Stranger Things, this psychological thriller is expected to be a hit with audiences worldwide. Fans of gritty detective dramas like Bosch and Luther will likely enjoy it, as the main character, Harry Hole, shares similarities with Harry Bosch.

As a fan, I think this series really delivers on the Nordic noir vibe – it’s right up there with shows like The Bridge and The Killing. It feels like Netflix is building something huge here, and with all the books still available, Detective Hole could become their next big crime franchise, similar to Reacher or Bosch on Prime Video. Just a heads-up though, it’s definitely a dark, gritty, and sometimes violent show, so it might not be for everyone!

With a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, Detective Hole is shaping up to be a big hit on Netflix this weekend. Collider praised it as an exciting and satisfying thriller, giving it 8 out of 10 stars. Similarly, Ebaster believes the series is among the best crime thriller adaptations currently available for streaming. This is one of the biggest new shows hitting Netflix, so don’t miss it!
