Netflix’s 8-Part Military Comedy Was The Only Top 25 Show To Be Officially Cancelled In The Second Half Of 2025

Netflix’s recent data makes the cancellation of a popular show, set for 2025, even more surprising.

I was totally hooked on Boots! It’s this amazing series created by Andy Parker, and it’s based on a true story – Greg Cope White’s memoir, The Pink Marine, which details what it was like to be a gay Marine back in 1990. It blew up on streaming and everyone loved it – critics and viewers alike, both giving it a 90% rating. Which is why I was so shocked and disappointed when it got cancelled in December 2025. It really deserved to keep going!

A recent Netflix report on streaming data shows that Boots was the only show out of their top 25 series from the latter half of 2025 that got canceled. The military comedy ranked at number 23, with viewers watching a total of 179.8 million hours and accounting for 30.7 million views. Unlike Boots, other popular shows ended as planned in 2025 and weren’t canceled.

The second season of Wednesday became Netflix’s most popular TV season ever. The first season of Wednesday still ranks high at number eight. This year also saw the conclusion of Stranger Things, with its fifth and final season landing at number two, and the previous four seasons all charting above the series Boots. Finally, Squid Game finished its initial run this year, and season three currently holds the number four spot.

The show Boots quickly became controversial after its release when the U.S. Pentagon publicly called it “woke garbage.” Despite this criticism, Boots remained popular – Netflix’s viewing numbers prove that – and received positive reviews from both critics and audiences. In fact, it’s performing as well as some of Netflix’s most successful shows.

Netflix’s rankings for late 2025 show Emily in Paris season 5 at number 25, just behind Boots. A sixth season of Emily in Paris is already planned. Nobody Wants This season 2 was also popular, earning a Golden Globe nomination, and has been renewed for another season. The limited series The Beast in Me also made the top 25, but won’t be returning for more episodes as it was designed as a one-time story.

As a big TV fan, I was really surprised when Boots got cancelled. It seemed like it was doing well with viewers, and I thought a second season could have been huge! Sadly, this isn’t new. We’ve seen it happen before with shows like Warrior Nun and Uncoupled on Netflix – popular shows with LGBTQ+ leads just getting the axe, which is really frustrating.

The series Boots features Miles Heizer, Liam Oh, Max Parker, and a full cast, with all eight episodes now streaming on Netflix.
